It's a seperate product for cleaning paint (removes dirt, oils, bonded contaminents).

On a new car you probably will be very happy with wash (not with dawn as polish and/or clay will remove old wax), followed by a very mild polish such as P21S gloss enhancing paint work cleanser (very easy to use by hand wipe on wipe off) and then the wax you are using.

Since you are using a carnuaba wax (Blitz) you can use any polish and there are many good ones out there.

Just follow the instructions of the claybar carefully -- use plenty of lubricant.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
When I waxed my car this week-end (Carnuba based One Grand Blitz) I noticed that some areas were not as smooth as when she was new. What products can I use to "slightly" buff, clean or prepare the paint with. I'm concern about using a product that's too abrasif since the car is only a year old. I've heard of clay bars and other products.
What would you guys recommend that would be "gentle" to use as a pre-wax preparation.
Thanks.
Marc
Use a claybar. It will remove surface contaminants. I usually clay the car twice a year when I do a full detail. Just follow the instructions of the claybar carefully -- use plenty of lubricant. Mother's sells a kit that has a claybar and spray bottle of lubricant.
I agree on the claybar. It is the secret to a great looking/feeling car. When you get done the car will feel like glass. Also, if you aren't already polishing prior to waxing that would be the next obvious step.
Do I understand correctly that the steps are 1- Clay bar 2- Polishing 3- Wax. ??
What is to be used for the polishing part ?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

Since you are using a carnuaba wax (Blitz) you can use any polish and there are many good ones out there. 3M and Mequiars (the professional line) are both good lines of polishes and somewhat easy to find. Einszett also makes some extremely easy to use and effective polishes (most likely have to order on-line though). If your entent is to merely smooth the surface further after claying then something like Mequairs Swirl Remover 2.0 would work well and is easily purchased at most auto parts stores. This is a very mild polish (do not expect it to remove swirl marks). However, if your intent is to remove or partially remove swirl marks then you are going to want something that is a little more aggressive.
Beaware that polishing to remove swirl marks by hand is very labor intensive. I would recommend and random orbital (RO) polishers like the one made by Porter Cable. RO polishers are goof proof. You will need some high quality pads if you decide to got this route (approximately $9/each).
You are correct on the order of operations. Over the weekend I did a full detail (by hand which is a real pain as bet mentioned):
1.Wash
2.Clay bar
3.Cleaner
4.Polish
5.Glaze
6.Wax
7.Wax
Have fun!
I would also suggest that if you plan on waxing, you should wash your car with regular Dawn dish washing liquid. It will remove all the old wax, along with whatever else might be on the paint. Most car wash solutions are very mild and are designed to not remove existing wax.
That said, don't use it if you don't plan on waxing.
It's a seperate product for cleaning paint (removes dirt, oils, bonded contaminents). It's a meguirs product but I wouldn't recommended it for your application since the car is nearly new. If you clay bar and polish you'll get a beautiful shine that you can product with a good wax.
Clay bars are abrasive and are used to remove paint contaminants that regular washing doesn't. The way to check if your car needs to be clayed is to wash it dry it then put your hand in a plastic sandwich bag and feel your paint if you feel bumps and graininess you should clay. You usually only need to clay the horizontal surfaces roof, hood, trunck that contaminants stick to. On a new car you probably will be very happy with wash (not with dawn as polish and/or clay will remove old wax), followed by a very mild polish such as P21S gloss enhancing paint work cleanser (very easy to use by hand wipe on wipe off) and then the wax you are using.
I'd try a quality polish like Zaino's Z1. It's easy to put on by hand. I'd not move to clay since it's too time consuming and overpowered for the need.
A polish is essentially an extremely fine abrasive that will grind down any high spots in the paint. The effect of removing high spots is a highly polished, smooth, surface. A wax is a protective coating that sits on top of your nicely polished surface and takes the first hits from bugs, weather, and UV....
Uberstep 5 is also recommended. A glaze will help to fill any irregularities (all paint has them if you look close enough) and provide a smoother surface for the wax that follows.
