This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The tech uses an air nozzle to blow from behind/underneath the car through holes/gaps in the underbody panels so the stuff gets blown out the front of the car the way it came in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a compressor and saw a post relating that a dealer did this for a member. Assuming this can be a DIY, how can I perform this seeming easy task? Thx for replies.

POST 3Original post

I did this myself the other night. Biggest pain is dealing with those stupid plastic pop rivets in the wheel wells. I had the car on jack stands already because I was working on something else. I think that made it easier to get to all of the screws along the bottom. Photos here :

POST 4Original post

Be careful blowing the debris out. The fins are fragile. I think the only way to clean them is the way GeorgeCo and Hurdi posted. I use the soft brush on my vacuum and then run the hose with the nozzle set on "rain" after I get access. YMMV

POST 5Original post

Holy crap GeorgeCo, there is a lot of crap in there! I definitely have to clean it out this year.....

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the video - very helpful

POST 7Original post

Yeah, i definitely wouldn't use high pressure air. I used a hose and a soft bristle brush to not damages the fins. i also have some extra push pins for when i damage them.

The techs do this for me when I take my cars in. I mention it to the SM so he adds this to the work order as a reminder to the techs though I suspect they do not need any reminding. There are a couple of points: One is the blowing out will not remove a heavy build up of crud. I had the bumper covers of both cars removed and these areas thoroughly cleaned. Two: I drive my cars a lot -- easily between 10K and 20K miles per year -- so they are in for service (at least oil/filter services done every 5K miles) several times a year. Because of the frequent servicing the trash gets removed before it requires the bumper cover be removed. The tech uses an air nozzle to blow from behind/underneath the car through holes/gaps in the underbody panels so the stuff gets blown out the front of the car the way it came in. I have watched the techs do this more than once and I see no risk to the car, the radiator, the condenser or the other hardware in that area.

POST 10Original post

I clean them annually: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...hose-rads.html At the beginning of the upcoming season, I'll install screens to reduce debris intake.

POST 11Original post

Cleaned mine out a few days ago. I think it needed it.

+1. Easy do it yourself job that should be done annually. I use a shop vac and hose to wash all the debris out from between the fins.
