Clearing/reseting fault codes that are fuel mixture related will reset fuel trims to 0.00 from the full rich or full lean value that they have adapted to over running time..

I�m interested in your feedback on my recent MAF experience. 1) Took my car to my local Indy for an oil change. 2) When I went to pick up the car it was sputtering and the idle was fluctuating between 900-1300 rpm. Not at all normal, she is usually 900-1000 3) Next day I start the car and it seems fine. I drive about 50 miles and get my first ever CEL 4) I connected the ODB2 and saw codes 1128/1130. Basically saying replace MAF or air filter or AOS. 5) I pressed the �reset codes� button and the car went to total ****! I was getting numerous errors about cylinders mis firing. Yikes! it wanted to stall and sounded awful and idling terrible. At this point I�m freaking out. 6) So I disconnected the negative battery terminal and waited an hour hoping to reset the ECM. 7) It worked! But I decided to go ahead and replace the MAF and air filter. Getting that connector off was hell! It was connected at the bottom and that clip would not dislodge. But I figured it out and the car is now perfect again idling smooth as it should So here are my questions: - Why did resetting the 1128/1130 codes cause the engine to go to ****? - What part of an oil change may have caused an issue with idling? Always check/record fuel trim values BEFORE clearing/resetting fault codes that have to do fuel mixtures. It helps in the determination of WHY you got the fault code.. Clearing/reseting fault codes that are fuel mixture related will reset fuel trims to 0.00 from the full rich or full lean value that they have adapted to over running time.. The only part of an oil change that would effect the idle stability is if the oil fill tube is accidentally broken during the oil fill ....( this can cause a chain reaction of a vacuum leak, followed by unstable idle and fuel trims going to full rich to compensate and setting a fault code)..
