Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Any ideas would be appreciated - as I was quoted @ 300$ to replace the pedal assembly which seems to be overkill for this problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2001 996 with tiptronic with @ 32k that has a 'sticky' gas pedal. It has been sitting for a while but not sure if I can somehow lube it so it will return to a smooth motion. Since it is a tip is still drives smoothly but if it were a stick it might make it jerky to drive it this way. Any ideas would be appreciated - as I was quoted @ 300$ to replace the pedal assembly which seems to be overkill for this problem.

POST 2Original post

Is it just sticky when you initially press it at take off or is it always sticky? If it is sticky just at take off, it could be the throttle body...

POST 3Original post

And you're positive the floormat is not interfering?

POST 4Original post

Take the assy out, disassemble it, clean it, lightly lube it, reassemble it and save $300. Others have done it with success. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...oved-feel.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-for-03-a.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...cpo-996-a.html

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the links - I will take a look and lube it tomorrow. What would be the best bube for this - a teflon lube or silicon?

POST 6Original post

The link is very helpful except on a 99 cable driven, there is another cable attached to the bottom of the pedal. Thus, you can't pull the assemble out. Has anyone tried it on a cable driven?

POST 7Original post

Im not sure how they work. But I have this to offer. My ford escape and wifes caravan both stuck at the top. So you couldnt apply smooth pressure to apply gas. It was a real pain in traffic. You would go to apply a little gas and you had to apply so much pressure that when it would unstick you would push the gas pedal 1/2 way down. The way the pedal is designed on THOSE cars is the actual pedal pushed a rod, that rod then connected to the trottle cable. I greased the back of the pedal where the rod was contacting the pedal. Basically the rod couldnt slide on the pedal. After I greased it all was smooth as silk.

POST 8Original post

+1 on Fpb111 fix. just remove clean and lube the pedal unit (single bolt) did it on my 01 TIP cab. guaranteed to improve pedal response.
