Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got three questions on the 996 the spoiler: 1. The spoiler is supposed to automatically go up at about 75 mph. How does one know if the spoiler went up at all? (You cannot see the spoiler from inside the car) 2. At what speed does the spoiler retract? 3. When the spoiler is raised manually (using the button) sometimes it stays up after the vehicle is turned off, sometimes it does not. Is there a logic or rule to this? Thanks to all who respond! Also, when

This was asked just 4 days ago... see Mike in CA excellent answer below. Loren (99 996) Spoiler Questions from 4 days ago

POST 3Original post

I have a 2000 996 CAB(which I'm trading for a 2002 C4S today! Yippee!), but I've learned about one sure fire way to know whether or not the spoilers up...I just drive in the far left lane on the highway and take a look at my shadow against the gaurd rail or barrier.

POST 4Original post

You can see the spoiler go up. I don't recommend the driver doing this, but if the passenger rises a little out of his seat he will be able to see the lip that isn't visible when it's down.

POST 5Original post

On the C4S, I can see it from the rearview mirror.

POST 6Original post

Depending on the height of the driver, the position of the seat, and the angle of the mirror, you can also see it in the 996 Coupe. I have all three set on my normal driveable settings and I can see the lip when extended with a fair amount of ease. Regards.

POST 7Original post

Engine compartment temperature under 122 F/55 C Spoiler extends at 75 mph/120 km/h and retracts at 37 mph/60 km/h. Engine compartment temperature over 140 F/60 C Spoiler extends at 50 mph/80 km/h and retracts at 19 mph/30 km/h.

POST 8Original post

I can see the spoiler quite easily in my rearview mirror when it goes up...

POST 9Original post

The C4S spoiler goes out and up a bit further than the C2, looks pretty cool when extended on the highway.

yah yah same thing i say center mirror just look for before and after and you'll realize a little bit of the spoiler pops up into view. at least it does for me uh......when i run it up with the switch on the fuse box of course try doing the look for the difference while stationary using the switch.

POST 11Original post

Yup, I can see the trailing edge in the mirror when it's activated... I guess it depends on how tall you are and the seating position. As far as the activation, mine extends at 120 Kmh (75 mph), and i think retracts when you slow to 80 Kmh (50mph). I would also guess if you manually deploy, if you go past the 50 mph, it will retract when you slow? Robert
