Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I believe redline is 7300rpm, and you won't hurt anything if you bump it -not that there's much to be gained by using the last 100rpm at every shift...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I see the engine redline on the tach at 7200rpm. Does anyone know what the fuel cutoff rpm is? Can the engine to 7400? I am working on my shifting and want to shift just before redline. The problem, if you will, is in the lower gears 6800-7000rpm comes up fast. So I have been shifting a bit early to make sure I don't bump 7200.

POST 3Original post

+1, these cars peak power is before redline...

POST 4Original post

it goes really fast from peak power rpm to redline and if you try to shift at peak power you will certainly hit the rev limiter from time to time, but nothing to worry about, that is why they have a rev limiter, you can't hurt the engine that way.

POST 5Original post

...just don't miss on a downshift(3rd instead of 5th).

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello everyone - thanks. i have not hit the limiter and do not intend to, i just need a few more miles and shifts to be more comfortable with the pedals and shifter. i do see that peak power is below redline at around 6800, but in lower gears the tach moves quickly past that! as far as missed downshifts - i am quite deliberate on those. i don't want to add any type 2 overrevs to my engine computer.

POST 7Original post

You drive it as hard as you can till the shift indicator light comes on and it won't go any faster. Then it's time to shift.

POST 8Original post

Haha! Funny, but true sometimes for me. In 2nd gear this car winds up so fast that it's quite easy to hit the rev limiter and have the car just lay down. Woops! Time to upshift.

POST 9Original post

I was told thats how you know when to shift, when you hit the rev limiter.
