Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an 02 Tip C2, and after an Autocross day recently with some hard shifting I now notice a clunk when down shifting aggressively from 3rd to 2nd... it's as though the tip box itself is moving and hitting the body! Tip shifts fine under hard acceleration it's just the down shifting where there's a problem. I'm kinda thinking it may be some kind of tiptronic box mount or motor mount... Any ideas anyone?

POST 2Original post

My mount starting clunking around 80k. I was told by 99firehawk that this was common past 80k miles if my memory serves.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So is it an ez fix? Anyone know where the mount is so I can check it... I'm almost sure it is the mount... if i knock it down to first and just stamp on the gas... it sounds like the tranny jumped up a foot... Any clues anyone?

POST 4Original post

It's probably the mounts. I had mine done while some other warranty work was being done, believe the bill was ~$100 in parts and I got a break on labor since they were performing other work. They didn't catch it until they dropped the tranny (I was insistent there was something wrong) so I'm not certain if a visual inspection from outside would reveal too much. If you were to pay full retail, my guess is a dealer would charge you roughly $400 for new mounts and installation. Don't run it hard until you R&R, nothing worse than half your drivetrain moving around while the other half stays still in these cars.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found the problem... I was almost sure it was the tranny mount... and what do you know it was. Here's a pic of the mount with very little rubber around the alloy! No Wonder it sounded like a sledge hammer! Here's the worn mount: http://picasaweb.google.com/karlgrov...85670026096514 Ordered the part from Sunset $173. Installing it myself - priceless!

POST 6Original post

nice pic, please do let us know how many hours it takes you, I'll pull my records and see if I can find the book labor

POST 7Original post

I was getting off the highway onto an exit ramp the other day, and as I was accelerating off again, after the yield, there was this rattling noise from under the car. Sounds like it was right beneath me, if I had to describe it, it sounded like "a chain was missing/slipping off a sprocket". Another way to describe it would be like you were accelerating off in 4th gear...except it was a very rapid rattle. It went for about 2 secs (which seemed like a really long and scary 2 secs!) then I never heard anything again the rest of the trip home. I even tried accelerating hard and all, but everything seemed fine. Anyone experienced this, or know what it might be??
