yea, I would change IMS and FWIW on a C4 Tip it will cost the most of any car as far as time is concerned.

I would imagine that the mileage might be too high and the fact the the engine was replaced may not allow them to do it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gentlemen, I'm still trying hard to become a part of your elite group (Porsche ownership). There's a C2 Tip w/75K miles in LA (McKenna Porsche/VW), no photo yet as they just got it in on a trade. Car Fax is busy with a lot of maintenane beyond regular service intervals including engine replacement in 3/20/06. See attached car fax. Price 25K. Appreciate your take on the cars history and 25K pricing. thank you, Kenny.
ps do you think an 3/06 engine replcmt can have the IMS upgrade or would this engine be the same as the 997s (can't upgrade w/o tearing down the motor).
some wierd comments and gaps in that service history
the new owner in 08 didnt service the car til mid 09' 9 months?
brakes and rotors replaced at 430 miles??
second owner drives it 7500 miles in 3 months? interesting,...
and many of those services are 10k apart.. is that the oil change interval?
I really dont see any problems, I just read those and thought.. wierd
Will the dealer CPO the car? I would imagine that the mileage might be too high and the fact the the engine was replaced may not allow them to do it.
Under Porsche guidelines, if the car is under 8 years old and under 100k they should be able to CPO it.
If they refuse to or give some bizarre excuse, that may tell you something.
Gents, engine replcmt is a good thing, but any thoughts on my ability to upgrade IMS bearing? Agree a strange service history (ie instrument cluster display panel, brakes and rotors, sterring angle sensor replc'd, door trim panel adjusted, dash trim panel replc'd, Cats replc'd) was this a lemon turned sweet?
I missed the engine replacement
NO IMS issues on the Turbo (it no have a one)
PS there is a Turbo 996 forum with more inforned Turbo guys (with the exception of a few that drift over here.... HuHumm!!)
my bad, you keep swappin cars on me
yea, I would change IMS and FWIW on a C4 Tip it will cost the most of any car as far as time is concerned. C2 would be somewhat easier since there is no front diff to deal with. the good news is you wont be changing the clutch or related parts so really its not too bad.
Sorry to be standing on this soap box all the time guys.... I just have been in and around the shop about 3-4 days a week and seeing these cars come in day after day with the same story is a killer... thankfully people are changing these now as a precaution and in at least one case we saw someone actually dodge a bullet (though most are fine as far as their current state)
A new motor would be a plus in my book, but I would not read too much into that...
I am off the box for now
Kenny- You will never know the all answers to the questions in order to make a decision. Poop or get off the pot! This of course is ONLY a friendly nudge to Porschedom......
