Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also how 'bout a pic or two of your current car in a UK setting -- hope that's not it on the bridge, ha.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have owned a 964 C2 for 6 years and it is the best car I have ever owned. I am now ready for a change and have been offered a late 2001 996 C2 Cabrio with 60k miles and a high spec for 19k. It has the 3.4 engine and I have read stories that these engines can suddenly go bang even if fully serviced and not thrashed. Should I go for it or run away?
Arrivare-
There are literally hundreds of posts on here regarding this topic. No disrespect to you......do we really need to have another post on this?
19k sounds high for that year. A 2002 3.6 at that price is a better 911 all around. Check out the Total911 issue 59 Your first 911, there is a nice break down chart of year and model pricing. It also has a nice write-up on 911 issues.
But if you like all the options and there is no collision damage then go for it. For the 3.4,3.6,3.8 Figure in the cost of LN Engineering IMS/RMS upgrade and have peace of mind for sudden engine failure.
Welcome to Rennlist, Arrivare. As mentioned, there is a lot of info...hit your search button and read away for plenty of opinions and good advice. My first question for you- have you driven the cab 996? If you like the way it drives then do your due diligence and have a PPI done and try to compare to other 996s for sale to get an idea of pricing. GL
Since you don't have the time to do proper research I will boil it down you.
All of us own at least one 996. We all support this model.
Some of us have had issues, most of us haven't. Most of the people who have had issues have dealt with those issues. A very small number of people have been unable to deal with their issues and will be forever unhappy about that.
I for one really like my car and if I ever have an issue I plan to deal with it.
My advice...buy the car. If you have an issue, deal with it.
Your other option is to not buy the car. Then you will have no issues. You will also not have a Porsche.
It's not rocket science mate.
19 kilopounds is like $30K USD. That's a *bit* high for the US, maybe right for blighty.
911 and Porsche World (one of your magazines) have written puhlenty about the 996 and local prices.
I am looking at a new 997 but for what the 996's are selling for I am keeping it. I have had no problems and love the car. It is like anything else some are great and some have issues. I had 2 mercedes a 1998 and a 2001, bought both new and they were the worst cars I ever owned. Nothing but problems. So it is just luck of the draw but make sure you do your homework and have the car checked out.
The OP is referring to Pound Sterling, not the Euro.
It looks like we will see fewer p-cars being exported to Europe do to the change in the value of the Euro. At least for the time being.
Good for European exports, bad for importing.
Many thanks for the advice. As the car is a private cash sale it does appear to be too high. I will keep looking for a 996 and enjoy my 964 for the time being.
Feel free to share your 996 prospects, we do have opinions.
