Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I took today off to putter around the house - making it an extra long weekend... Decided to learn about my car and install the newly bypassed 3.6 mufflers. Can't wait to hear them. I know that I did not have to remove the bumper, but wanted to see how for when I do the plugs, coils and tubes in the future. Install went quite easily, a little bit of PB blaster and everything came right apart. I would rate it as an easy DIY. Next project will beto get Eric a Bumperplugs.com to paint the bumperettes. Lorelei extracted her pound of flesh though Wacked my head on the corner of the decklid. Called my wife because she moved the first aid kit. My wife's first question to me "You didn't bleed on the car did you?"

POST 2Original post

Post a sound clip... I'd like to hear them too...

POST 3Original post

Hey, looks good, Fergus! I'm sure you will love the sound, as all of us do who have done this mod. I agree that this is a pretty straight forward DIY process. I managed to change mine without bumping my head. Were you able to source the 3.6 cans locally, and have the fabbing and welding done, or did you buy the finished modded mufflers from somewhere?

POST 4Original post

home welding job? nice looking what are you into it $$$ wise? WTG, you gonna be loving this mod !

POST 5Original post

nice job budy!! how long you did the whole job which including unstalled the muffler and re-installed the new muffler?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just went for a ride. The personality of the car is radically transformed. I used to think it sounded okay, now, comparatively, I would suggest it sounded anemic. Total cash cost $360; as follows 3.6L mufflers from a fellow Lister in the USA (thanks Frank) - $300 total landed cost U-bend (304 stainless, 2.25") - $60 Welding - free (It pays to have family in the manufacturing business) Installation - 50 ml of blood and 2.5hrs of my time (it could be done in under an hour without too much trouble). It is without a doubt the best, most cost-effective mod that you can do. Let me see what I have that will record the sound reasonably.

POST 7Original post

dont forget, you can sell your old mufflers for ?something? ant the net cost will be even lower

POST 8Original post

post sound clip indeed, I an curious to hear that 'stage I' mod

POST 9Original post

I plan on doing this mod and my mufflers are on the way, can you confirm the exact location and reference number for the tubes "U-bend (304 stainless, 2.25") - $60" ?

POST 10Original post

The ******** at the local Midas charged me $400 to do mine,I beat them down to $300.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You can to better in the USA for pricing... http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...Category_Code=

to weld and install???

POST 13Original post

Good job on the mufflers, too bad about your head. Almost every mod requires some blood loss.

POST 14Original post

I had my 3.6L mufflers welded for $60, which included the pipe. I uninstalled and installed them.

POST 15Original post

Nice job Fergus! I was afraid that they would get damaged in transit. Glad they made it ok.

POST 16Original post

Question for you concerning the bumper cover removal...Are the brackets for the bumperetts removeable or would you have to cut them off? I would love to convert to an European rear bumper but don't want to not be able to change back to original.

POST 17Original post

Is the 3.4 muffler tubing 2.25" or is it possible to go bigger?

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did not look and from my pictures it's really hard to tell. They almost look riveted on, but those might be captive studs with nuts on the back. Sorry that I can't offer more insight.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You might be able to go 2.5", but 2.25" appears to be the factory diameter.

POST 20Original post

Wait just notice you are putting 3.6 mufflers on. So is the 3.4 and 3.6 both 2.25" factory diameter? Thanks!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just measured and the 3.4 are also 2.25"

POST 22Original post

I hit my head too, Whenever I work on this thing !.
