Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
It's probably the easiest to upgrade if the headunit is bad.
Leading evidence: 'easiest' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'easiest' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bose amp won't be cheap if you go' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Replacing the BOSE amp won't be cheap if you go with a new factory replacement.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone. I have a 2002 Carrera. The stereo seems to be operational however when I turn it on, theres no noise coming out of it. Once I turn it up to about 30 it just starts making unrecognizable noises.
Is this a common issue? Any known fixes? Thanks!
So basically you have a pre-most BOSE system, which means analog. That's not a bad thing. It's probably the easiest to upgrade if the headunit is bad. Do you know the model number of the unit? CDR-220? CDR-210? or the double din PCM1 with navigation.
Normally, it's the amps that go bad because they're exposed to the elements in the frunk. Replacing the BOSE amp won't be cheap if you go with a new factory replacement. You could always buy used on eBay. But you need to take some pictures of the headunit and amp that's in the frunk. That will give you the ordering information you need.
There seems to be two Bose amplifiers. Any clue which tends to go wrong to cause no sound to come out of the speakers?
One is part

Another is part
99664534100 additional amplifier.
I can only speculate. Yes, the factory Becker radio head-units can go bad, but based on my experience, the amps usually go first and the theory to why they go bad is because they're exposed to moisture and heat/cold cycles which shortens the life of the electronics. The radio headunit is technically in a more climate controlled environment which helps mitigate internal damage to the electronics.
For the 996 BOSE systems, one 6-channel amplifier drove the full range components speakers in the dash, doors, and rear. The other smaller amp is for the subwoofer. Now on the 997, Porsche moved the small sub amps inside the subwoofer speaker cabinets.
Do you have the subwoofer?
Yesthere is a subwoofer.
It seems to be in working order. So that probably rules out issues with the additional amplifier?
looking forward to hearing some music in this system. It seems to have some oomph for a stock setup from 20 years ago.
Yes, the

"additional amplifier" is for the subwoofer. I've posted the pre-MOST BOSE system schematic on the other PCCM+ thread if that can you out.
