Leading evidence: 'donor motor,,,,some decoded it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'donor motor,,,,some decoded it' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check list, leaves 1 big ticket out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If that's leaking, then you would have to replace the aluminium crush washer.

A pre purchase inspection here in the USA would not be vague like something rubber from top of motor,,,$1k to do oil change brake fluid and filters.

I think you were mixing up blow-by test to evaluate piston ring seal against cilinder bore (expressed in volume/unit of time or, as showcased on here by Porschetech3 as an equivalent measurement expressed in units of pressure) and AOS test by measuring crankcase vacuum.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes its serious,no it not quick. Is this the same car youre thinking of buying? Get a proper ppi performed. It will cost a few hundred bucks and potentially save you 10s of thousands!
Im not saying its not common its a know weak point for these cars. Im saying its not inexpensive or easy. Someone decoded the vin and its a tippy cab, correct? Im saying theres plenty of well maintained 996s out there. Some more desirable than others. Prices vary on the initial cost. No matter what initial purchase is, maintenance is the same price. Even diy,,,,parts for these cars are $%$,,,,,
Tiptronic cabs with low mileage and extensive service records will cost far less than a manual coupe with the same documents. But hey its your $$ do what makes your life better.
It's serious cause the owner can't tell you what it is, which is the sign you should pass. It's also got a pan leak. Not well cared for. Like Patunia said tip cars are a dime a dozen, find one that doesn't have multiple leaks.
There, I fixed it for ya.

What reading is shown as 1.0? Lambda? In that case, it says very little, if anything about the state of the AOS.
You should find out if it is working properly or not so that you can negotiate a better price if it is indeed broken. The way to do that is by measuring crank case vacuum using a digital manometer connected to an appropriate oil cap (that you drill a hole into).
A vacuum of 4-6 inches of water column is considered 👍.
Another, different test and very worthwhile is described here:

Oh, and tell the world of rennlist that you're in Portugal, so the US members understand that tiptronic cabriolets might perhaps not be so readily available as they presume.
Be aware that an AOS replacement on an MK-I Tiptronic Cabriolet is an engine out procedure. If the car is otherwise suitable to you, have the Ultimate AOS installed and get the the IMSB changed at the same time. Factor that into your negotiations.
Looks like solenoid leak possibly? Easy enough to fix if it is.
Don't let an oil leak put you off, just be sure what it is first. Take a better picture above it.

The option sticker in his other thread showed tip, and he said this is same car but manual. Just confused.

Relevant cause he wants to know how big a deal the leak is, if AOS then tip v MT def makes a difference.
That is the chain tensioner. If that's leaking, then you would have to replace the aluminium crush washer.
But was there no oil higher up? That's where the AOS sits and it is a more likely source of oil weeping/leaks than that crush washer.
In reddit I have one user that is mentioning that the stock anti-aging coating from factory can look like an oil leak if the car still has relatively low miles. In this case the car have 44000 miles. Can it be a correct assumption?
My car had 36k when I bought it and ~43k currently. I do my own wrenching and never once did I mistake Cosmoline residue (or whatever it is) for an oil leak. Same with the BMWs.
Well already known but confirms its prob AOS. Fixable but shop labor $$. They mention the oil pan leak?
If it were me and if I wanted the car, Id negotiate hard and walk away without concessions.
Hey OP, I understand that you are in Portugal,,,,maybe its different there, I dont know, seems that way from what you are saying. A pre purchase inspection here in the USA would not be vague like something rubber from top of motor,,,$1k to do oil change brake fluid and filters. Sorry dude you are either getting taken for your money OR you have already got got and you own the car. Did you buy the pos and found out your Fd? Originally, you were looking to buy it, now it comes across differently. Maybe its me, maybe a misunderstanding/language/word choices,,,,,
SUS is my response
Whole forests have been felled to produce the paper documenting all the repairs and refreshed parts you will need to maintain one of these beauties, so I would think twice before buying one that required immediate repairs. I would also be suspicious as to how well the car had ever been maintained if the seller either ignored or didn't care about the leaking fluid. Rather than wait for failure, I had a UAOS installed, a new oil cooler and associated gaskets and a bunch of coolant hoses and it took 20 hours of labor. If I had done it would have taken 40 hours.
They did the 111 points and I'm mentioning the only thing that they identified and the cost to repair it. Everything was checked.
I was in the meeting with the vendor and the indy store and after the feedback I decided to take the car. Post pics soon.
I guess im the minority here but i think the car is fine if $1k will fix the leak and take care of some maintenance. Get the car, fix whats broken and enjoy the hell of of it.
Yes. After the words of the mechanic (that's one of the best cars I have seen) I decided to buy the car however as it is already in the indy shop we decided to advance with the maintanance so it will leave from there ready for the roads
OP, did you or the seller choose the place the PPI was done (who paid)?
The 111 points check-list, leaves 1 big ticket out:
A look down the bores with an endoscope via the spark plug holes or ideally up the bores, going through either the bottom after removal of the sump plate or after removal of a plug at the back of the engine.

Has this borescope been done?
If not, then just enjoy the car and inform yourself on here about what is deemed effective and preventative maintenance in the M96.
