Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello-
I have never purchased a vehicle from a private party. To make things more complicated, this vehicle is located in another state.
I was thinking about using escrow.com (for payment) with their Title transfer service. Is this worth it?
-Ryan
The car and the seller are very well known here on Rennlist. I am in Cleveland and the car is in California. I figured that these services would add value to both of us.
-Ryan
So a couple of hundred bucks it is.
I guess its all about your appetite for risk and how comfortable you are with this type of transaction.
Personally for that kind of $ I'd jump on the plane and finalize it with a handshake.
Ryan,
That is probably a good idea. I doubt the owner will have an issue with using escrow.com. Make sure you post pics when you get the car, because if it is the car I am thinking of, it has been "under cover" too long.... pictorially speaking, of course.
Tim-
I think that you are I are on the same page. It is probably the car that you are thinking of. We almost had the details pounded out last month. The issue was that I lost my job the day we were to finalize everything. I kept the seller updated with the job issue.
While I do not have a job officially, the headhunter, potential employer, and I, started talking "real" numbers today. I have my fingers crossed that an offer will be made in the next 24-48 hrs. As soon as I have this all taken care of, I can finish the deal for the car.
Is there anything else that I would need, other than a bill of sale & signed title?
-Ryan
I am not sure if there's anything else you need (only thing would be if your state requires it - check your local DMV's web site). I just sold a car in February - here in CA. Sold it on eBay. Provided the signed title. The bill of sales gets mailed into the DMV within 5 days. It detaches from the pink slip (I believe its titled Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability). Get the cash and you're good to go.
Ryan,
That is great news on the potential job. I didn't know you had lost your job last month. I have been looking since early December when I lost my job. I have nothing pending at this stage.
Sorry to take your thread OT, but without the job, there is no Porsche. Don't ask me how I know!
I'm not sure why escrow would be better than a plane ticket. Escrow costs money, and if you get the car and don't like it, don't you have to pay to send it back?
Because I do not have the time to fly out to California. If everything works out, I will start my new Job on Monday morning. Then I am not going to drive it back. I have received quotes for shipping.
Man, you don't NEED a job when you have a Porsche. Everything just COMES to you. PCNA actually sends someone out once a month to FILL your glovebox with 100 dollar bills. Didn't anyone on the site tell you that?
I just bought a 996 that was located out of state. I ended up signing a bill of sale with the seller that outlined the specifics of the deal, and it gave me the ability to cancel the sale upon inspection of the vehicle or based on the results of the PPI. We both signed the official transfer of title paperwork for the seller's state, and that was it.
No additional expense necessary.
maybe a fellow rennlister can help be your eyes and check the car out? I know the deal is almost finalized, but it would certainly make one feel more comfortable, in addition to using escrow service.
I think that it is a great idea. But, I do not think that it is necessary in this case. Many people on this board have seen this car in person. I feel very confident that the car is being represented accurately.
The reason for escrow.com for payment is just to help protect both of us during the transaction.
I do not feel that I have to use the title transfer service. I just want to make sure that I have everything that I need so that I can start driving the car as soon as it gets here. =-)
Good luck with the purchase and the job! At least with that cover that has been siting on the car we know that there's no dust on it.
Can't wait to see photos of the car in a different location.
