Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking for a set of winter wheels for a 2002 C4 Cabriolet and according to my owner's manual the factory 17" fitment is 7Jx17ET50 and 9Jx17ET55 and the factory 18" fitment is 7.5Jx18ET50 or 8Jx18ET50(or 52) in the front and 10Jx18ET65. Where these the sizes that were available from the factory on the C2s as well? In other words, were the available wheels for the C2 and C4 the same (given the same model year)? Or did the C4 offer different wheel sizes? The reason I ask is that I've seen a set of wheels that are advertised as factory wheels with the correct specifications for the fronts but the rears are 18 X 9 with 52mm offsets which are not listed in my owner's manual as available stock options. I understand the the AWD mechanism is dependent on the correct size wheel/tire combinations on the car in order to function well. This would be most related to the relative diameters between the front and the rear staying the same, right? Thanks, David

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As a followup question on the same thread, I see lots of 7x17 wheels with an offset of 55mm. This would put the wheel 5 mm closer in towards the center of the car. Is there enough clearance in a stock C4 suspension/caliper to sacrifice the 5mm? Also if the inboard/outboard specifications are slightly different from stock (i.e. the above wheel) will that have any effect on the AWD assuming the right tires are put on as specified in the owner's manual?

POST 3Original post

1. C2/C4 are same sizs (both narrow body). but........not the C4S (wide-body) 2. The 9x18 is the 986 wheel.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info. Can anyone weigh in on whether or not a 55mm offset on the front wheel is of any consequence when the factory supplied wheel has an offset of 50mm? Again, I'm thinking about AWD functionality (which I don't think will be affected) and caliper/suspension clearance (which may be affected)? Thanks, David

POST 5Original post

You would NOT want a 55 offset on the front. It is the equivalent of pushing your wheel in 5mm from the stock location. Totally change the geometry of the car. If anything, people ADD a 5mm spacer to the fornt thus giving it a "45mm" offset.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Was there a change in the factory specified offset in the 996's when they went from 99-01 to the '02MY update? Does anyone have a source to know what offset these wheels would be? Rear: 996.362.129.00 Front: 996.362.124.00 Thanks, David

POST 7Original post

Only thing that changed was the tires sizes. Went to 285 in the rear. BTW, you might want to ask Loren over at Renntech.org about the part #'s
