1999 C2, Fuel Gage shows empty with reserve light on. Get to the pump and all that goes in is 10 gallons. Needle goes to full. Nice surprize these days since gas prices are high, but the car doesn't go along way on 10 gallons of gas. Anyone else have any issues like this ??? Any thoughts on repair other than replace sender. TIA. Marc

Not exactly what you described, but often when the gas tank is near full, the needle will bounce all the way down and stay there for 30 seconds or so. Happens randomly, probably the fuel sending unit is about to go

I've noticed that when fuel warning light is on, SOMETIMES gas pump clicks off early (stops pumping), leaving about 1/4 of tank not filled. This sporatic issue goes away if you fill up before getting close to Empty and isn't a problem since. Try filling up again at the same pump since you think you have an instrumentation problem (fuel reads full when tank isn't). If you can pump a few more gallons at Full on dash reading, you may have an instrumentation or sensor issue. If so, try another pump at another gas station to see if you can get more gas in. If so, it may be the previous pump was overly sensitive.

I had same problem. Dealer fixed it. Apparently there was a bulletin on it. The dealer replaced my sending unit I believe. It's been perfect since.

Also, don't forget if you were running hot then the gas and fumes expand in your tank and then a sensitive pump will shut off quickly. Happens to me all the time here in the desert. I always fill in the morning first thing on a cold engine.
