No more worries for the IMS to go BOOM since that has been replaced.

The short shift kit I actually put in was not the one that you change the shift lever its something that ties into the transmission part of it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got the time to have her brought to the shop to have her surgery. They will be performing a clutch replacement, aos, IMS, RMS, transmission flush, oil change and short shifter installation. Can't wait till she comes out of recovery hopefully tomorrow and good as new...

POST 2Original post

Good luck with the upgrades. Why the flatbed, are you having problems? I'd skip the SS and go with a 997 shifter, just my .02.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pressure plate went out and didn't want to drive it. Plus I wanted to use my tow with AAA before I renew..

POST 4Original post

Just curious....how many miles? My pressure plate fingers broke at around 51K miles....

POST 5Original post

That's surgery sounds like maintenance and upgrades?

POST 6Original post

Sweet looking car Mike, my baby is in the shop also for a new clutch, CV joints and a few other minor things

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car has 56k miles on it.. better to get the work done before anything tragic happens... best way is preventative maintenance.

POST 9Original post

The timing of your mishap stinks, but you seem to have the right attitude regarding the fix. Can't wait to hear how your Porsche drives when you get it back.

POST 10Original post

Good times ahead! Car will be perfect, must be an amazing feeling to get big things like that out of the way!!

POST 11Original post

time and money well spent: you're getting all of the more common headaches out of the way. Now you'll have some peace of mind while driving and not obsessing about the IMS bearing, etc. Well done - enjoy it!! [Let's see some "after" photos, minus the flatbed truck!

POST 12Original post

good for you - some things are impossible to catch on PPI...that would be one of them I guess...

POST 13Original post

...and...now you're starting with everything really solid. Historically, many have preferred the 997 shifter to short shifter (there are even posts of people taking out a short shifter and replacing with the 997 component).

POST 14Original post

Mike, After the elective surgery , can you let us know what condition the IMS was in ?

POST 16Original post

Hey anyone want to buy a perfectly good dual row bearing with 65k miles?

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 8870919

GLWTS, I hear the market is flooded with these good bearings.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will let everyone know how it turns out once I get the car back. The short shift kit I actually put in was not the one that you change the shift lever its something that ties into the transmission part of it. It was from b&g or r&m something that usually does make the short shifter handle.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 8869506

Tell me about the CV joints. Do they just repack them or actually change out the bearings? My car was a 41k mile donor with 2 years of hard racing and I haven't touched the half shafts-yet....

POST 20Original post

Might want to consider the AOS while it's easily accessable.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great news! Car came back home tonight and I'd like to give two thumbs up to Alden at Flintworks in Campbell for the great job and fast work. Had it back to me the next day. Thank goodness the flywheel was fine so that saved me some $$ for mods. Car drives and shifts smooth as silk now with the new clutch set up. No more worries for the IMS to go BOOM since that has been replaced. Alden said that the bearing was showing a little wear as it was a little bit hard to turn/spin. AOS is new as well as all the fluids. The short shift kit actually feels really good. I'll have to find out what it is again. So happy the perma-grin is back..

POST 22Original post

about how much was all the work? Assume you used the Raby bearing? I have that same under tranny SS still n the box, too. I put in the 997, and was pleased enough to not feel I had to install it right away, but I still want to try it.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cost wasn't too bad at all.... Money well spent versus new engine...

POST 24Original post

Charles Navarro bearing by LN Engineering.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, the LN bearing for the IMS.....

POST 26Original post

A good point you bring up. Unless you send your engine off to Porsche for a larger unservicable bearing, currently the LN IMS bearing is still the only "consumer" option available. Pelican still does not have their kit available: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...al%20Row%20IMS Part #: PEL-IMS-1 $TBD

POST 27Original post

My old one looks brand new @ 37k miles. Doesn't move very smoothly though. Glad its out either way!

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear you DOT-- lucky its done.. Now no more worries....

POST 29Original post

That (IMS bearing) is what made me decide to get a 997.2 instead of the 997.1. The 997.2 has the 9A1 motor, which does not have an Intermediate Shaft, and consequently, no IMS bearing.

POST 31Original post

Hey Mike Glad all turned out fine and le$$ than expected

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Francisco, You know what that means.... I might be time for a new suspension...
