Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I will be doing my own oil change for once, so I was thinking about how to remove my oil pan to check for deposit, any instruction about to remove it and putting it back together ?
Leading evidence: 'Check deposit, any instruction about' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check deposit, any instruction about' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I think you should not take it out unless you decide to change the sump pan of do an upgrade to a deeper sump pan.

seal is loctite 5900 silicone, tightening sequence inside to out, opposing sides, 1.5 mm bead of silicone in precisely the correct line around the pan and bolts otherwise it will leak.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I will be doing my own oil change for once, so I was thinking about how to remove my oil pan to check for deposit, any instruction about to remove it and putting it back together ?
- torque for the bolts ?
- need a new seal or I can put it back with the old one ?
- grease the seal or have a clean seal ?
- useless procedure ?
FYI, my car show no sign whatsoever of oil leak around the pan, and I don't want to do this job and then have it leak and look ugly
1. torque is 7.5 ft lbs IIRC.
2. seal is loctite 5900 silicone, tightening sequence inside to out, opposing sides, 1.5 mm bead of silicone in precisely the correct line around the pan and bolts otherwise it will leak.
3. no gasket is used. The sealing agent is silicone.
4. if i were you i wouldn't do it, unless you are skilled with silicone application and have a work shop manual, you'll find some stuff in the pan but probably not enough to worry about.
5. better use of your time/money to just cut your oil filter and examine it for metal debris and perhaps order an LN magnetic drain plug.
Especially for a 3.6 I give the above advice. A 3.4 I might suggest otherwise with the variocam pads.
yeah you might be right. I have an oil analysis kit that I will use to see how the oil is feeling
I ordered the magnetic drain plug so I'll probably go with that.
If it was a seal I would have done it, but the silicon thingy freaks me out a bit. I already struggle when it is time to apply caulk on the windows... lol
I recently asked the guys here if i should do the exact same thing and the answer was a no. I think you should not take it out unless you decide to change the sump pan of do an upgrade to a deeper sump pan.
Absent any leaks from the sump to engine mating leave the sump plate be.
There are no deposits. There might be some bit of metal trash/sealant trash there but it is not hurting anything.
If there's anything of interest it will be in the oil filter housing oil and oil filter element.
Sincerely,
Macster.
I with I could send a microscopic guided robots in there and check it out... may be the next product for flat6innovation after their IMS predictive tool
Harbor Freight sells an 8.5mm fiber optic camera that can be inserted through the spark plug hole. It goes on sale fairly often for about $200 or you can use one of the 20% off coupons that you see in many magazines.
