Based on sound technology used by the military and industry to detect impending machinery failure, the IMS Guardian should work as Jake promised and provide early detection of potentially catastrophic failure.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was lucky enough to be attending Jake's M96 Engine Building 101 course this week in Georgia. While at the course, Jake showed us a prototype of the IMS Guardian and explained the technology behind it. I have not yet seen the Excellence article yet, so I don't know what it says, but the IMS Guardian looks like a winner. Based on sound technology used by the military and industry to detect impending machinery failure, the IMS Guardian should work as Jake promised and provide early detection of potentially catastrophic failure. Jake added some very interesting and proprietary technology to the standard military design. These improvements for application in the 996/997 engines will provide both early detection and prevention of false alarms. I have used the LN magnetic oil plug in my M96 for some time now and can verify that it does collect ferrous particles. The IMS Guardian similarly collects ferrous particles but then also provides an alarm, visual and audible, when the amount of iron collected become abnormal. This provides early detection of several of the various modes of engine failure, allowing the owner to shutdown their engine in time to avoid complete engine destruction. The engine building course, by the way, was outstanding. For those of you doubters, Jake is the real deal. He is definitely a master of the water-cooled Porsche engine (and the air-cooled, but that's another forum). It was a real treat to be able to attend this course. Here is a picture of me holding the IMS Guardian prototype Jake showed us, next to the engine we put together in the course. (3.6-->3.8 L with all the goodies, drool)

POST 2Original post

Uh oh, Jake will be looking for you. I'll bet that was an informative workshop. Nice.

POST 3Original post

This pic is authorized:-) that's PTT 01- the first IMS Guardian!

POST 6Original post

He hasn't opened sales again, if you've been following the IMS detection thread. They are not available for order on his website yet. http://www.flat6innovations.com/shop/home.php?cat=399

POST 7Original post

We ship our other products world wide daily.. The IMSG will be no different and while we have secured Australian and European distributors we do not have any in Asia as of yet. Sales will begin in the coming week, but as I stated earlier expect an 8-12 week delivery time after the order, we simply are not able to keep up. The units are being assembled here at our facility, not in some offshore sweat shop..
