Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Normally this rust is harmless but you want to when you first drive the car try to remember (I have to admit I seldom remember myself) use the brakes a bit to slow the car to remove the rust.
Leading evidence: 'Use brakes a bit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use brakes a bit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Any zinc coating on the rotor surface is gone as soon as your brake pads makes contact on the rotors the first time you use the brakes hard, the coatings are only microns thick.

Suggestion
The car stopped ok but because I brought the car to a stop with now very hot brakes the rust dust caused some kind of uneven friction coefficient to develop so thereafter when used lightly the brakes would pulse.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys I have a concern about our rotors in the 911 996. Recently I noticed over the past few months when it rains and I leave the car outside the rotors seem build up some kind of rust color on them but when I drive again they go away back to the factory brushed color. So what gives is this normal? I don't have a garage where I live right now, next place I move into will definitely have one especially in Florida here too hot without one.
Absolutely normal. They will really rust up when you wash the car, and it's a good idea to go out and drive it a little bit as soon as you are done washing.
Was a concern at first, but no more. Mine do it after a wash, or sitting outside. I'ts the way our Porsches are trying to tell us to get in and drive. A couple of stabs at the brakes cleans them right up.
Thats normal. I just washed my car 30 mins ago and my rotors were rusted BAD. Took the pressure washer and blasted the rust out. The water that came out was so brown ... but at least it was clean.
Cheers
As others have said, normal.
You want to see 'rust' visit a new car dealer's lot and look at the brake rotors of the new cars.
Normally this rust is harmless but you want to when you first drive the car try to remember (I have to admit I seldom remember myself) use the brakes a bit to slow the car to remove the rust.
I"ve never had a problem with the brakes from this rust that builds up over time and in damp weather but once I washed a car and put it away without drying the brakes -- by driving the car after the washing -- and then next time I drove the car I had to make an emergency stop from speed and the brakes were rusty. The car stopped ok but because I brought the car to a stop with now very hot brakes the rust dust caused some kind of uneven friction coefficient to develop so thereafter when used lightly the brakes would pulse.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Ok makes sense but a mechanic I know told me these rotors from the factory have a zinc coating on them when new so has the coating rubbed off? I can't believe Porsche wouldn't coat them with some kind of protection from rust build up on a 90K car.
