Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I noticed a funny grinding sound whenever i start braking but at speeds above 90km/h. It sounds more like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .... haha Any ideas on what may cause this sound? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Sounds like you might need to have the brakes checked... maybe a worn pad or something.

POST 4Original post

Breaking the pads in is a good thing to do. Not certain but some hard braking without the car coming to a stop and letting off then build up speed again and hard brake again always not coming to a stop so that maybe rolling around 25mph or 35kph. Best to start braking from around 100kph or 60mph or higher I'd figure. Brake manufacturer should have a brake in procedure you could read. Other than that maybe there are some clips off or something.

Whenever I hear/read of brakes making noises after being worked on my first recommendation is that the brakes be checked for any installation problems or early/premature hardware failure problems. Ideally you'd want to focus on the wheel or at least the end of the car from where the noise appears to be coming from. You can give all rotors -- outside and inside surfaces -- a good inspection looking for any obvious signs of trouble: scoring or cracks or well just anything. You have 4 brakes and chances are they are not all bad so you'll have 3 good ones and one bad one and the bad one will (should) stand out. If you see nothing obvious then the wheel has to come off and the brake hardware checked to make sure a retaining clip has *not* come loose or a pin broke or a retainer broke or a piece of pad came loose from the backing plate. But really you look for anything amiss. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 6Original post

If you are doing the brake jod yoruself don't toque the bolts like a do it yourself video on here shows doing multiple repeated torquings of the same bolt. One time shots to the desired torque or progressing up in pressure to the desired level. Multiple applications of the desire pressure goes over the pressure each time additional torquing is done which stretches the threads and or cracks the bolt which ruins the ideal pressure and can lead to a screwed up installation ie some bolts too loose due to the stretch and or cracks. I've never done the porsche brakes but isn't there some sort of vibration goop or rubber sealant for between pistons and pad. That trick works to get rid of some odd noises brakes can make.

Great advice as usual... Definatly something to check out. Not normal and not the sort of thing you want to fail. R

ahahaha. Nah my car is fine ... I just make it sound like its falling apart.

POST 10Original post

Turn the pads around, the metal part should be toward the calipers, against the pistons.
