Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
IF the real estate market ever comes back(I'm a new home builder), I'll be looking for a 997 at some point to replace my MY99.

My dad has a speed yellow C2S, sport chrono, nav. He is thinking about trading it in on an 07 GT3 because they're giving him a good trade in value on his C2S, about $7k more than I paid for my 996 40AE.
So, assuming they would offer a trade in value on my 40AE that was reasonable, we are considering trading in my 40AE and me paying the difference in the trade-in value to get my dad's C2S.
I like the C2S a lot; the speed yellow and PASM suspension does it for me. It also has less miles and the paint is in great shape.
So how much would you guys pay? I wouldn't do $10k for sure, but I might do $5k -ish.
Why not do it? What is the rated HP with the S compared to yours, and compared to yours, how is the handling. It's easy to be bitten by the newer/better Porsche bug.
You would owe the difference in value between the 997 - 996 =your cost of 997 + tax savings on the trade in which is diference in trade in cost X 1+sales tax rate.
If you like the car i'd do it assuming you know how well your dad serviced the car.
Why involve the dealer and of course which requires you pay the dealer's markup?
Why not just buy your dad's car outright and then dispose of your car?
Look at it this way: You save possibly $5K or more.
Sincerely,
Macster.
5k do it for sure, 10k do it if you have the spare 5k
The 997 looks better and the S is actually an upgrade, even though with your 40th anniversary it will not be much faster if any at all, but still you step up into newer model without having to worry about the previous owner... assuming your dad can be trusted
Well the car is well taken care of...not driven enough really but he has taken it to a couple autocrosses and track days with me.
It turns out that the difference is $13k per the dealer, which is too much. I'm perfectly happy with my 40AE but we are still considering trading it and keeping the 997S. I think the wisest thing is just to pass on the GT3 because even at a good deal, my dad will be paying at least $40k for a car that he probably won't enjoy $40k more than his 997S. Honestly I think his needs are better suited by the car he has now since he doesn't do any serious tracking. The GT3 he is looking at is a beauty though!
when the market recovers I am hiding in a hole and not buying parts for my car
so there!
And FWIW francars...the second plan is better than the first, I have drive a few 997's - if you can do it keep the 996 and get an early car
