Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Oil consumption was finally traced to badly scored cylinders.
Leading evidence: 'badly scored cylinders' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'badly scored cylinders' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace under cpo' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I might be one of the very few that actually had an engine replaced under CPO for excessive oil consumption!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, 60 on most of it, 20 on the newer engine. I might be one of the very few that actually had an engine replaced under CPO for excessive oil consumption! A combination of patience, documentation, and a cooperative local service manager made it possible. (By the way, the new (reman) engine goes through almost no oil). Oil consumption was finally traced to badly scored cylinders. However, they were scored (from the photos I saw) near the end of their stroke, which might explain why I still had good leakdown and compression tests.
I really like the 996. Occasionally I look at other cars, but it would take a lot to make me trade. I like the kind of retro feel of the interior compared to the newer 911s. If I did trade, I would probably consider a Cayman for the weight distribution (but mainly the lower price).
Even test drove a Z06 Corvette. My impression is that it is really an engine with attached car. But pretty outside (austere inside).

Your C4S is beautiful, and with a reman engine I would say you should keep your current Porsche. However, the Cayman is a great driver and IMHO would also be a Porsche that you'd enjoy if you decide to trade. GL with your decision.
Gorgeous, I've been toying around with the idea of getting another car and selling the porsche for more comfort, and utility
Looked at a

And I just don't think any of those cars provide more satisfaction while driving, so I will keep the p-car.
Thanks all! Nothing like looking at other cars to make you appreciate what you have. I have to laugh, I stopped by the BMW dealer to look at a few options, and even the sales rep wondered why I was looking . . .
Hey, it's heading to 40 today. Time for a driveway wash.
