Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I think the 996 will work for her, while I use the 951.

I also plan to change the radio this week, if parts come in.

I hope to order the suspension next week, after testing the new tires.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been researching 911s for a little while and finally decided to trade in a BMW Z3 2.3 for the 996. Really wanted either a 996TT or 996 C4S but couldn't justify the expenditure to Mrs. I also own a 98 E36 M3 (barely modified with ECU remap) and a 88 951 (w/270 whp). As much as I wanted to keep the Z3 and having a convertible was kind of nice, the Mrs. was having issues with my "fleet" taking up too much real estate and would had freaked if I added a 4th car. She drives a Acura TL 6MT (hates the four doors but likes the car) and she enjoyed driving the Z3 (hates the M3,too raw(?) she says and won't drive the 951). I hope she likes the 996. She did a DE in a Aston Martin last year (did so much better than me) . I hope to take her to a few DEs/track days this year. I think the 996 will work for her, while I use the 951.
So far I'm pretty happy with the 996. It's the dark blue with blue leather interior, 18" wheels. Power delivery is wonderful. Interior is nice (a bit too luxury for me with the wood trim). This being my first time driving/owning a rear engine car I'm not sure if I have a front end problem or if the slight front end floatiness is natural. I understand it's going to have a different feel than the front engined cars. It was checked out and passed inspection. The floaty feeling only comes into play at speeds greater than 80mph. Although the tires have a lot a tread left, I plan to change them this week. The fronts were made in 2002 and the rears made in 2005. I believe the suspension is still original. I plan to go with some combination of H&R or Eibach springs with either Konis (have these on the 951) or Bilsteins Sports (I like the feel of this on the M3) or PSS9s after doing more forum "research". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken
Ken,
Welcome to the 996 Forum and contrats on getting the 996.! It is customery that Newbies post pics of their car, so consider this your "newbie Initiation."
Come on Newbie, post the @#$%^&* pics!
This is all meant to be good fun!
Again, welcome to the Forum.
Sorry for the newbie "mistake". Here are a couple pictures of the "best view" and the interior and one of the rest of the "fleet". (sorry for the fuzzy phone camera shots). New tires are on order. I also plan to change the radio this week, if parts come in. Moving the climate control to the bottom and installing a Pioneer AVIC110. I hope to order the suspension next week, after testing the new tires. Thanks for the welcome.
To be honest, my 02 996 feels a bit less stable at higher speeds (80+) than my 968 and 944S2 did. I had the suspension looked at and had a very good alignment done. Feeling remains.
My uneducated conclusion is that this sensation is just that, a sensation and not reality. The 996 is a much more modern car, two generations advanced beyond the 924/944/968 generation of front-engined cars. It is just plain more refined. However, it is less raw. The steering is boosted higher and the overall performance is more neutral. That said, it is also far more capable. It is a case of getting used to a bit less feedback, but a lot more performance. And a much more modern, luxurious, and beautiful Porsche.
Congrats on your purchase!
The front end float you feel is the US suspension. Search for options here and you'll find many. The RoW M030 is the European factory sport suspension and it removes the float entirely. Welcome to Rennlist!
Nice car! The front spoiler is a very inexpensive mod which fixed my high speed float issues without resorting to new suspension. Search here for lip spoiler chin spoiler etc under my username, there should be a part number
Thanks for the kind words. This car definitely has "wood". I was reading an old Total 911 (I think it was issue 41). I smiled when I saw a 996 profiled with even more wood. But, the car has been a blast to drive so far. I'm getting use to the front end feeling.
Htny...Thanks for the advice on the chip spoiler. It's on my list of things to buy.
Thanks to all,
Welcome, and thanks for the pics. The floatiness can be overcome with suspension upgrades or as mentioned aero tweaks. They are great cars to own and drive. I won't mention 'wood'.
Hi all,
Finally got the chin spoiler installed. Also, installed a M.Shaw tail. I like how the chin spoiler looks painted. Jury is still out on the tail. The RoW M030 has been sitting in the garage for a month. That should be installed this week.
welcome and nice exterior mods...did you lose some of the front end float with the chin spoiler? I minimized mine some with 13mm spacers up front, but the RoW should do the trick...
