Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

The groove should be toward the outside of the engine for 1 to be at TDC with the pulley set for TDC.

Leading evidence: 'Set tdc' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set tdc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anybody explain me how to get the engine in tdc for the first cylinder. thanks alex

POST 2Original post

welcome to RL there is a hole in the crank pully with a mark... line it up with the pin hole in the block... to be sure you are on TDC one and not TDC 4 you have to remove the cam seal on the end of the cam on bank 1-3 (is there a reason you care if it is on TDC 1 or 4 ?) from Kyle

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thats what i already know, but how to make shur that its tdc 1??? i only have the manual for the 3,4 and the marks dont exist on the 3,6

POST 4Original post

the ONLY way to know is to pull the cam plug on the exhaust cam on the 1-3 bank and IIRC the "slot" should be horizontal back to my original Q.... what make you need TDC1 and not just TDC (1 or 4) marks? IIRC there is are several holes in the pulley on the 3.6 and they are labeled... ??? (this is from observation, not first hand doing so I might be off)

POST 6Original post

As the cans turn at 1/2 of the speed of the crank there is no way to tell from the marks on the puppy whether you are at TDC for 1 or 4 without looking at the end of a cam. The standard way is to look. At the drive end of the 1-3 exhaust cam. The groove should be toward the outside of the engine for 1 to be at TDC with the pulley set for TDC. If you are familier with the marks/Grooves on the end of the intake cam, (this is for a 3.4 engine) the grooves should be straight up and down, with the narrow side toward the outside of the engine.

POST 7Original post

Aircraft Spruce sells a neat little gizmo that is foolproof for determining TDC. It will whistle when #1 is on the compression stroke. This is fairly easy to determine by turning the engine with a ratchet with all plugs removed. I first saw this used at the motor barn at the local FBO many years ago. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...ionwhistle.php
