Just had the main pinion shaft bearing replaced, and turns out the secondary bearing had to be replaced too, as the only way to get it out was with a destructive method.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just had the main pinion shaft bearing replaced, and turns out the secondary bearing had to be replaced too, as the only way to get it out was with a destructive method. Never mentioned to me before-hand, and strikes me as odd since I have that bearing too, and it's just the seal that's dented...and I can bend the seal with my fingers. Anyone have experience with this? (Crossposted on Renntech)

POST 2Original post

I'll check with my guy about the destructive removal method. Don't get me started on transmissions. I bought a replacement unit and it got dropped and shattered before it ever left the shipping yard. Now I am back to looking for a replacement trans/a bellhousing or a parts car. arrgh.

POST 3Original post

Paul you are kidding me?????? Your gearbox was damaged while in transit??? Was this something that happened while it was being unloaded? I think that I have another bellhousing for you if you are in need of one. Give me a call on Monday. Dave, I think that I know what you are talking about. While I am not certain that was the only way that it could have been removed, it is possible depending on its condition. You can give me a call too on Monday and I think that I will be able to shed a bit more light on what might have happened. Warmest Regards. POST 4Original post

Erik, Will do, thanks. One of the workers was moving the trans on a forklift before it was strapped down and it fell off and did a death tumble. Just cost me time. We know what that costs. LOL
