I'll be using a buddy's shop 100miles from me, so I'm gonna take time off from work and make it a vacation; but it also means I want to order ALL the parts before hand.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I might be in the market for a new clutch and (maybe) flywheel sometime in the next 6mo. I don't want some crazy racing thing, lightweight this and that that. I want something solid, that will last while. It's a daily driver which I will occasionally track. Someone told me about a Kevlar unit that had good road manners, good track manners, and would last quite a bit longer than stock if you break it in correctly. Should I go stock? Should I replace the flywheel? What other components to replace while I'm in there? I will do the IMS upgrade from Jake. I'll be using a buddy's shop 100miles from me, so I'm gonna take time off from work and make it a vacation; but it also means I want to order ALL the parts before hand. No surprises! If that's possible.

POST 2Original post

stock IMO and dont change the flywheel before you know it needs it - cant normally tell before opening it it up (from what i have read) throw out bearing of course too - when you call for parts ask the parts guy too. is your tranny fixed? why 6 months for the clutch?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7032352

Ahh, you remembered my tranny issues. That's nice. Tranny is still an issue (the downshifting to second when cold grinds) though a tad better with the redline NS oil. But, I don't want to have to live with my Pcar having to baby it into second all the time (my commute is only 6miles, so it never heats up enough). Before I know it, the car will be too old, and I'll have never had the chance to truely enjoy every driving experience. Life is too short. So, I guesstimated within 6mo I'll try to have scrounged up the $4.5k needed for the rebuilt trans, new clutch components, and the IMS upgrade. Yikes!! $4.5k!! Bye bye motorcycle. Glad I can do all labor myself, atleast. Should I do anything else since I'm up in there, like put in a new clutch slave cylinder? It's acting fine (a tiiiiiiny bit gritty feeling when shifting while moving, which I'm chaulking up to motor/trans vibrations or trans bearing wear. But, could be cheap insurance).

POST 4Original post

Yes No Inspect RMS/IMS, if not leaking **DONT** touch it

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool, thanks for the feedback. No leaking from the RMS, so I'm definitely not touching that. I'm still on the fence about the IMS. Just cause it's not leaking doesn't mean the bearing isn't badly warn from lack of lube.

POST 6Original post

just test the IMS. Jake has videos somewhere on what to look for.

POST 7Original post

I would suggest the stock stuff--new clutch disc, new pressure plate, throwout bearing, and flywheel, if you want to fix it all. How many miles on the car (or that clutch?)

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 7033076

Yes but what if you change it and then it starts leaking all the time... somthing to think about...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 7033719, 7033805

Clocked just turned 50k on the original parts. Not that much, but if I'm gonna be doing a trans swap anyway, I want to freshen up everything in there. That's true. But remember I'm talking about the IMS, not the RMS. I won't touch the RMS if it's not leaking. The IMS, leaking or not, if it lets go will... Well, we all know the story.

POST 10Original post

Talk to Power Haus II in Colorado [phone removed]), they can rebuilt you trans with better parts very cost effectively. They rebuilt my 996 race trans and it has been bullet-proof.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Ed, will do. I've haven't hunkered down and shopped for the shop I will use, but need to do that soon. So far I've also been real impressed with what Gbox does. They talked at length with me on the phone. I'll start a thread soon dedicated to asking for a trans shop. BTW, I love the term "bulletproof" I WANT THAT BAD!! lol!!
