Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But seriously, although mine had very low miles, it was stored correctly, fluids/oil were changed regularly, and I never had one problem with it.

Suggestion
I recommend people that store cycles during the off season to at least start them and let them obtain operating temperature at least a few times a month.
Leading evidence: 'Replace regularly, and i never had one problem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend people' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Oil should have been changed annually, Brakes need to be flushed if they were not.

Suggestion
Other than some pre-checkouts and fluid changes, I say go for it.

Suggestion
Oil should have still been changed yearly despite mileage
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have never owned a 996, so I don't have a clue as to what to look for and what these cars are worth. But I have a unique opportunity to purchase a 2000 bule / black car with only 4000 miles on it. One owner garage stored no accidents.
The car looks and feels completely like a new vehicle.
What should I look for before I buy it?
What do you guys think it is worth?
What services should I do before I drive it?
Thanks,
Like Andy said.
Be aggressive on the fluids. Oil should have been changed annually, Brakes need to be flushed if they were not. Tires are likely not only square but dry rotted and hard.
Their were updates and recalls along the way that we have all forgotten. Check on those things like the coolant resevoir and coolant cap.
Good luck, sounds like a gem.
great, thanks.
I was told that some of these cars had problems with a bearing issue and that I should change to a newer ceramic bearing. Any insides on that?
And any ideas as to how much this would be worth? Is $27k too much for a 10 year old 996?
Cars like that book value is only a relative figure, it's more what the low mileage is worth to you
27k surely isn't unreasonable if you ask me for a 4k mile example
sounds like a fair deal to me too.....
I dont think you can foresee the effects of sitting so long on the car. It might have no ill effects and then again, it might start having small issues that just keep coming up (bearings / seals) from the long sit - though personally I dont think any of them are going to be a major deal breaker - your concerns about ceramic bearing is no issue IMO
Because of low miles, your porsche dealer may offer a reasonable and hopefully reputable insurance option worth considering as part of the purchase (if I recall quotes vary based on current car's mileage).
Buying it, I wouldn't worry about the occasional $750 bill that could arise on a 10 year car, but I might worry about shaft failure / new engine since the car has so few miles and sat around so long that if there is a concern there it hasn't yet been uncovered.
Otherwise, a like-new 911 for a fraction of the money!
A 10 year old 996 with 4k on it? That makes me really sad.
This car has "roted" more than it has actually been driven.
What's the weatehr stripping like? Seals?
PM'ed you. (you'll see why when you read it! Lol!!)
I also sent some of my thoughts about it. Other than some pre-checkouts and fluid changes, I say go for it. But picts!! Post picts!!
If you like the car, do it! I had a low mileage 2000 C2 (bought with 8k miles in 2004 and sold with 15k miles in 2006) and it gave me no problems whatsoever!
One thing to keep in mind is that most damage to mechanical things occur during times that it is not running. Things deteriorate, degenerate, rust, corrode and internal motor, trans and diff components are susceptible to damage from acids forming in lubricants and from moisture in the air occupying the areas devoid of oil in their housings. I see much more damage to transmission shafts, gears, cam faces, pistons, cylinders and bearings in general in vehicles that are not driven regularly. I am in the motorcycle business and have rebuilt motors for decades. I recommend people that store cycles during the off season to at least start them and let them obtain operating temperature at least a few times a month. One of my own race bikes sustained internal motor damage from sitting in my rather warm garage for about two months without being turned over. I would not have know about it had I not torn down the motor for inspection before the season started. Cars are made to be driven and mechanical issues and wear usually do not occur to lubricated parts once they are at operating temperature.
That's a lovely 996. I sold mine at 3400 miles, so I don't konw what a high mileage 4K car is like! But seriously, although mine had very low miles, it was stored correctly, fluids/oil were changed regularly, and I never had one problem with it.
That looks like a FANTASTIC specimen. I bought my 2000 cab with 5200 miles on it in 2005. Unlike the prior driver, and despite the fact that I walk to work, I have since added over 30k miles to the car. That's a lot of recreational driving for those of you pounding the 405 in LA to work every day.
