i jus asked the same question on another thread, i guess i was lucky with previous owner because i've never had a problem with swirl marks, whats the difference with a black porsche & any other black car, their all hard to keep clean, how do you get the swirl marks, from somebody not knowing how to wax or buff the car, or can you get them another way, once you get a black car cleaned the right way, imo theirs not a better looking color.

i used a scratch remover called quixx, suppose to be one of the best, but i used the #1 & #2 step lotions, no sandpaper, but it left a very dull & hazy spot on my car that i can't bring back the shine, does anyone have any suggestions, someone had told me he thought i took the clear off, do you know how to bring it back, i've already tried waxing, buffing, & even a clay bar, but it still has that hazy dull spot in it!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, I do not have a lot of experience in car detailing. The question I have is what is the best method of removing swirl marks from the paint finish? What products do you uys use to protect your paint finish. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks, Manny.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its guards red. I had a black C4S and got rid of it in less than 4 months. Black is a beautiful color, but if your **** about keeping it looking good it will drive you crazy!!

POST 4Original post

Go check out the concours & car care forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/concours-and-car-care-86/ Or search in this forum. Tons of GREAT info here, I learned more about washing and detailing my own car here than I even knew there was to learn. And I still consider myself a complete beginner (though I think I now can wash my car without scratching it!). Someday I might even try clay/polish/wax, but I'll use my wife's car as the guinea pig...

POST 5Original post

Manny, get yourself a Porter Cable polisher, pads and a swirl polish. Autopia do good products and have great how-to articles. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-450.html http://www.autopia-carcare.com/sonsbfpp.html http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-pc7424.html Here's a sample of my swirls before using the Swirlbuster polish and pad from Autopia And Here's afterwards It's easy to use, saves a lot of hand polishing, and is the perfect prep for your chosen wax or sealer. I just wash and clay before I polish, then polish and wax/seal for final finish.

POST 6Original post

Manny, just saw that your car is Guards red like the wife's Boxster. Same process used here - then Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze used to provide the final seal once the polishing was done. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/kus-kls-gla.html Gives a nice wet look gloss which is very hard wearing and easy to keep clean. Chris.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow looks great!! Thanks for the info. Do they also have clay and sealers as well?

POST 8Original post

Yep they do. Clay: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/tps-clylub.html Sealant: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/kus-kls-gla.html There are great how to write ups on this website as well: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/how-to.html I went to one of their actual demo sessions at the local Porsche club meet, and David (Mr Autopia) did some great demos on his Porsche Cayenne. Nice guy, and he knows his techniques for keeping cars looking great.

POST 9Original post

how can you put before and after pictures of different angles/lighting on the car?????????? Makes no sense. Your car looks beautiful and clean though...

POST 10Original post

Well if I'd remembered to take shots of the hood before I polished that part! ....... Here's another after shot to make your day - hood under a fluro tube in the garage - this is my acid test as fluro lights show swirls which you just don't see in normal daylight.

POST 11Original post

Just beautiful... Flouresent light will always show the flaws and I see none. Fansastic!!! I too love the Porter Cable RO

POST 12Original post

VERY NICE guys...something like that would cost you around $300 to have it professionally done. That black is especially difficult to get looking like that....and just wiping it off without dusting it first will leave swirls. Very nice job(s) indeed....all both of you.

POST 13Original post

Nice car cdodkin, but who in the hell convinced you to paint an oleander bush as a graphic on your hood?

POST 14Original post

Thank you sir! With the $300 I save each time on each car - I've justified a decent set-up for detailing the P-Cars, and even Wifey fully approves! The tent has made all the difference - means I can detail any day, sunny or not.

POST 15Original post

Believe me that would be a better look than the skating rink the previous owner had left all over the car!

POST 16Original post

Well maybe through this list, I'll have a chance to discuss P-car with you over a plowmans' lunch at some theme pub in SoCal, I'm heading over there soon. (I was transfered two years ago but delayed it a little bit). Moving to Temecula, Working in LA... It's as close to drawing blood as possible in Tucson to get guys to enjoy their cars out here.... "Oh Mount Lemmon is hard on my suspenion" Kitt Peak is too far. Etc. Etc. I would hope there's a good pub out there. I'm Canadian but was schooled in the arts of Pubs near Guilford, Woking and Windsor.

POST 17Original post

No that sounds like a great plan! There are a couple of English pubs in San Marcos, South of Temecula on the 15, and a really good selection in San Diego itself, including the Shakespear's just across from the airport. Nice plowmans and some decent English beers Your commute from Temecula to LA could be awesome - Ortega Hwy (74) One of the best twisty routes in SoCal Give me a shout when you're here, and we can arrange a local Porsche welcome

POST 19Original post

I've had good luck with Griot's Garage products. Machine polish with a random orbital polisher, followed by a good waxing works very well.

POST 20Original post

2nd on the Griots. The website is a candy store.

POST 21Original post

+3 on Griots, has improved the look immensely, will do it again soon. Claying was so simple, and I had never used that before.

POST 22Original post

Does the claying process help take out the swirls or is that done with the polisher?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 7674061

Correctly using a clay bar only lifts off surface contaminants. Using one incorrectly can add lots of scratches. In either case, you will need to use some sort of scratch/swirl remover and/or polish to remove the fine imperfections.

POST 26Original post

++++ on Griot"s. Just spent Fathers day doing what I wanted to do. Wash, Clay, Polish, Wax. What a difference. It was my first crack at detailing. The orbital was great. Sorry no before or after pics but the swirls on my DD are gone. My wife even was amazed at the mirror reflection.

POST 27Original post

I was totally needing this thread. Thanks for the info....time to bond with the car.

Just to update - since this thread started, technology has moved along - and I now use a paint prep polish and sealant from Autopia from their Ultima range. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ultima.html Even easier to use, and the results have been excellent and longer lasting. Same 986 and 996 as before: Their Paint Guard Plus is easier than the Klasse sealant to apply - just takes 10 mins once the polishing is done - and no buffing. Lasts a good 6 months+ as well - even with daily use and weekly washing.

+++++ Groitsgarage, very gentle products. Beautiful work CDODKIN!!!!!

CDODKIN turned me on the Ultima line of sealants about a year ago. I'd never go back to my old wax process. So easy, looks great, and lasts. The end. Shawn
