Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replacing a damaged diff is not a cheap proposition.
Leading evidence: 'Replace damaged diff is not a cheap proposition' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace damaged diff is not a cheap proposition' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at a set of 20" techarts for my 2004 C4s. The owner is running 325-25-20's on the 20x12 rears and 245-30-20 on the 20x8.5 fronts on his 997 C4S. Will these fit on my car?
Thanks!
Matt
20's may be a little too large for the 996.
You also have to pay attention to the wheel/tire diameter and make sure you don't deviate too much from stock 996, otherwise you might damage your differential.
I don't think 20's look very good on a 996...even some 19's look pretty bad if the offset is not right. Replacing a damaged diff is not a cheap proposition.
These will look seriously funny on a 996. But then, maybe that's the look you're looking for. You should also investigate upgrading your suspension to that of a 997. Porsche AG found that 19 inch rims exert considerably more stress upon the stock 996 suspensions, necessitating the beefing up of many components (arms) of thir 996 mules during prototype 997 testing. They literally tore up the stock 996 suspensions, resulting in the redesign. (The had hoped to save money and retain the stock 996 suspension on the next generation 911 but were forced to change many parts when faced with the failures). To go to 20s is an absolute guarantee that you'll weaken the suspension to dangerous levels.
Thanks, guys. I wasn't convinced with the 20" anyway. I thought the car might look like a covered wagon. I'd love to find some cool 18"s as i just bought tires for my stock rims but the 20" techarts were a smoking deal. Fitment looks iffy and it may make my car look goofy. So I'll pass.
Matt
It is discouraged by Porsche. Non- approved sizing for wheels/tires on a 996 is supposed to be noted in PIWIS (along with any other 3rd party modifications) when a CPO/warranty vehicle is in for service. Should there be a warranty claim that is related to drivetrain and/or suspension down the road, questions are asked to determine if these "mods" caused the failure.
In my experience with issues like this Porsche would never share such engineering issues with the public. They go through a lot of engineering and testing to establish these findings and they keep it close to their vest.
