However, the 7336 (or 7336sp for sander/polisher) is the EXACT same random orbital polisher as the 7424 (I checked on the Porter Cable web site to compare the two models) but also has a sanding pad on it.

While I was waiting for one of the Z2 coats to dry, I cleaned/conditioned the interior leathers (very nice!).

Also wanted to add that I used microfiber towels I purchased from AudiOn19s that worked really well.

A friend of mine said the Zaino 5 is best used with the Zaino activator.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

My primary porter cable died last summer and my backup was at the repair shop and I tried to get one from Lowes only to find out they don't carry it anymore.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did the Zaino sequence starting from washing with Dawn, claybar, wash, polish x3. I didn't get to clean the wheels tires -- have to save that for another day. By the third coat of Z2, it was definitely evident that it was worth waiting for. After I took the picks, I used some Z6. While I was waiting for one of the Z2 coats to dry, I cleaned/conditioned the interior leathers (very nice!).

Thanks Zack. The car looks outstanding.
I should have called you on Sat. I got into Austin to pick up that E55 and the car was a disaster and completely not as advertised. I walked away from the deal and had to figure out how to get back home today. I could have come over and helped with the Zaino process but was a little tired and aggrivated by the time I found hotel and flight arrangements.
Andy
Zack - Your car looks fantastic. Congratulations on the results of your hard work.
I just used Zaino 5 and 2 for the first time on Friday night. Strangely, I thought it was easier and far less messy than Zymol, which I have used for years. I'm now a believer. For photos, check out the Cary/Apex thread - mine is the black 996 with the aero kit. It's the best it has looked since I've owned it.
Bob
Zack,
Looking good - is that Arctic Silver? Also - are you using an RO or are you doing it by hand? What are you looking for - depth or gloss? I did something similar using 3M stuff, Imperial Hand Glaze, followed by their Perfect-it Show Car glaze and topped with Mother's Carnauba... I did it all by hand, but I honestly couldn't tell if it got better (it looked pretty good to start with)... It's pretty glossy now, so I'd like to try something to deepen the finish and if Zaino does that, I'll try that next...
Looking good - can't wait to see it when you're done.

It's Arctic Silver. I did everything by hand. I wanted a durable beautiful finish - wasn't really thinking about depth or gloss. I'll have to let someone else comment on Zaino's effect on depth.
Besides suggestions on the muffler tips and wheels, I also need some suggestions on the various rubber strips on the exterior. Some of them have some white stuff on them. Should I use something specifically for cleaning/revitalizing rubber to help with these places (probably will need to be applied with a q-tip).
Saw the pics. Very nice! How long did it take you? For me, the whole process took about 6 1/2 hours. I'm guessing that the wheels, tires, and muffler tips will take me another 2-3 (next weekend!).
It took me a couple hours by hand. I don't have a good orbital yet. A friend of mine said the Zaino 5 is best used with the Zaino activator. But, I'm pretty happy with the results that I got - he also agreed that my Porsche looks great. He also suggested that I buy their detailer spray and car wash to keep the shine looking its best - I'll have to wait. Don't want to waste my Maguire's car wash or quick detailer.
The one mistake I made was to try to polish the Zainos when it was still a little damp. It was pretty unforgiving - left smudges and wouldn't buff out well. But, when it was dry, it was easy.
Are you using the latest Zainos formulation, or are you using the older (and apparently more difficult) stuff? My buddies described the old process and mine was much easier. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
I'm still very pleased with the results.
Bob
Zack, on those exhaust tips good old Mothers metal polish (red and white can) is a good place to start. If the suit is really down in the surface of the tips find some #0000 (4 zeros) steel wool with the metal polish. Then follow up with the metal polish again and a regular towel. Save the Microfibers for the paint an interior as you really need something with some bite like terry cloth for the tips.
Andy
Zack - I forgot to mention that in the 3 hours I spent on my car, I polished the body once with each solution; I polished the hood with both solutions 2 times. I also polished each of the wheels thoroughly.
Bob
Bob,
If you are looking into the Porter Cable random orbital polisher, the model most guys get and the model available on most car care web sites is the 7424. However, the 7336 (or 7336sp for sander/polisher) is the EXACT same random orbital polisher as the 7424 (I checked on the Porter Cable web site to compare the two models) but also has a sanding pad on it. Because it is classified as a "sander," it is available at the big hardware outlets. I got mine a Lowe's Hardware for $99.97 about 3 years ago. That was $25 to $45 less than the cost of the 7424 polisher at that time.
I thought this might be of some help to you.
And the 7336 usually comes with a bigger weight for 6" backing plates vs. the standard weight that comes on the 7424.
Alas, Lowes quit carrying them in stores about a year ago. My primary porter cable died last summer and my backup was at the repair shop and I tried to get one from Lowes only to find out they don't carry it anymore.
Andy
Bummer! Too bad, because they had a great deal on the 7336. The bigger weight has not been an issue for me, but I have not tried it with the smaller weight.
The directions definitely made a point of this. I was lucky to have a low humidity day in the 60s to apply the Z2 + ZFX accelerator. It was dry within 20 minutes and buffed off pretty easy with some elbow grease.
I bought my stuff two weeks ago. I'm not using the Z-AIO -- just Z2 + ZFX. I didn't use the Z5 based on feedback from others that Z2 would work well for my car color.
LOL
that was me last week, cleaned it all day Sunday, rained Monday morning...but Tuesday was clear (still got it dirty though.... just didnt care! )
Its hard to dirty it up, but meant to be driven and if you love to "touch it" just clean it again (though dont be surprised when everyone from your neighbor to your wife asks "are you washing that again?)
LMAO
I would recommend the Meguire's Gold Class Protectant wipes. With those you can quickly hit any rubber, or plastic. Also my number one pick for wiping down the engine compartment.
Thanks! I'll pick some up along with the solution suggested for the muffler tips on my way home.
Now I just need some tips on the wheels (I have Zaino tire dressing)...
Ok, now that you have the car nice and shiny and clean, here is the
LA BuddaHead Waterless detail:
1. go over the car w/ a california car duster;
use the small interior duster to get the rims
2. Use Meguire's Quick Mist for any bugs, boogers, etc.
3. Hit the entire car w/ Meguire's Ultimate Quik Wax.
You can even go over the taillights, headlights with this product.
4. Use a Swiffer duster to get the interior.
5. Use a good liquid wax to get any stubborn dirt/dust off the rims.
6. Clean the windows
Do this once a week (should only take 30min). Use the duster daily as needed.
Your car will always look perfect and will never have to touch water.
How do the Meguire's products mix with the Zaino? i.e. Do you do this waterless detail on top of other Meguire's products?
I was planning on keeping the outside clean with Z7 wash and Z6 gloss spray...
Zack,
Car looks awesome!
Where'd you get your wheels painted? I'm looking to get my track wheels painted black (they're Volk TE37s in gunmetal finish).
You'd have to ask the PO - RocC4S on 6speed. I think if you search there, you may find some posts about it. I seem to recall that he had them sand blasted and painted instead of powder coated (something about heat affecting the rims) and that it cost ~$900.
It works just fine.
IMO a regular dry wash is better than wet washes.
You will find that the car will look better, and be easier to maintain.
You will know every inch of it.
Pretty good description of my Sunday ritual. If it doesn't come off with the duster and the Quik Wax, that's my signal to do a full wash... Not quite 30 minutes if everything is stored properly in the garage... One benefit of doing this once a week is that my wife isn't out there asking me why I'm rubbing the car again...
Great idea - only my trunk is fully cooperative. I'm not sure what combination of metaphysical forces needs to be in place for the latch to open, but it certainly doesn't open when I need it to sometimes... I do know that if I try, and it doesn't open, I can go away for some unspecified amount of time then it will open... I do know that it won't open if I need it to when I'm filling up with gas... or when I have the camera stored in there and I come upon the perfect backdrop... and I do know it will open when it has sat in the garage, again for that unspecified amount of time. But, right now figuring that out is a secondary priority...
Finally got around to hitting my tips with Mothers and doing most of the following. Got a bunch of grime off with the Quick Mist. The Mother's stuff worked ok, but I was only able to remove about half of the soot from inside the tip -- even with 0000 and 00 steel wool. Any suggestions?
I've been meaning to say how much I love your new avatar... really emphasizes the reason to have a black car... that's really an amazing shot. Probably make a real nice poster too!

Took mine off while swapping new mufflers tonight, hit them on a buffing wheel and MAN am I happy with those!!
maybe once a year that is a good idea, but its not THAT easy to take them off... use the simichrome (or other) for maintenance I figure....
That buffing wheel makes it look awesome though! Like NEW (and with over 100k miles on the car, they looked real bad before!) - I didnt do the insides...WAY over my level of "acceptable" w/o going down that road....
