Some guys fitted the Turbo wing but didn't complete the job and the wing is always in the UP position.

Not crazy about the turbo tail - I prefer the clean look of the widebody with the standard rear tail on the C4S.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Folks, I'm looking to buy a 2002+ 996 C4S with the following specs: Exterior Colour (in order of preference): Silver, Grey, Black, Yellow, White, Red Interior Colour: Black Mileage: Less than 36000 Miles/60,000km Location: preferably in Canada so as to avoid duties, taxes, and other fees Coupe but would consider cabs. Prefer stock as I want to add the following mods: - Techart 19" Formula GTS black wheels - Techart Type III rear spoiler - Techart side skirts Price: I'm looking to get this vehicle with the specs and mods above to my door within 47KUS - is that realistic? If not then please clue me in. Help me find my dream car

POST 2Original post

A month ago, I saw an '03 C4S in NY with 25k miles go for ~$37k on eBay. I'm not sure about the availability of these cars in Canada, but I think you should be able to find a very nice example for $47k. Heck, Phil G might even sell his to you!

POST 4Original post

Here is one near me: http://austin.craigslist.org/ctd/1053012066.html

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Zookie - thanks for the idea of posting in the Canada forum - I didn't even think of that...

Remedy and I are now the best of friends!!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Absolutely correct Phil OK - I found one local in Calgary - let me know what you think. http://www.canadatrader.com/result/d...calgaryalberta He's asking $49,900CDN but he's down to $45,000 (about $33K US). What do you think?

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 6341177

+1 Looks like it has sports exhaust and upgraded stereo. Get a PPI at a reputable Porsche indy and test drive it (if possible). $33k is definitely in the ballpark.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

zroadhouse - thanks for the response. Have posted in the Canada forum seeking indy to conduct PPI in Calgary. Will see if I can schedule a test drive this week.

POST 10Original post

Rem - very nice car, nice colors and well-equipped. Of course it has 36K miles (as opposed to 3K) but for the money it sounds like a good deal. Look it over carefully, and have a full PPI done before you put down a cent on it. Good luck. Sure you don't want mine for a mere $17K more??

POST 11Original post

Remedy, That's a nice looking car. Hope it works out for you.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks folks - I'll keep you posted on the progress. Quick question - would you guys recommend Carfax, Autocheck, Carproof - any of them? All of them? I know Carfax has had some negative press recently regarding their vehicle information not being complete. Any thoughts?

POST 14Original post

Carfax wouldn't hurt, but don't make that the primary document for making the final decision. It is just a little more data to consider when making your decision.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6342986

+1 I looked at dozens of Carfax reports prior to my purchase. I don't think I looked at a single negative report for a 996. The PPI is much more important - I would recommend getting the most knowledgeable shop you can find.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PPI and body/paint inspection scheduled for tomorrow with Riegel Tuning. I'm pumped!

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK - so PPI is done and these were the issues (in no particular order): - Wipers - Battery is weak (8.9v) - Coolant expansion cap is leaking - Small amount of oil in intake system - Air intake snorkel clip broken - Coolant weak (-22) - Rear main seal leak - Left front differential seal leak - Front bumper and hood has been repainted (repainted really well though) All in all the above items would total approximately $3500 to repair. Riegel told me to offer the seller 42k so I did and the guy won't budge claiming he can get 44.5k at the local MB dealer as a trade-in for the new car he wants to buy. So the search continues... sigh.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 6350156

visually STUNNING! options are really awesome.....love the steering wheel, seats and color combo priced LOW?

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 6350156

I would look closely into this car. Price is right and colors/options/condition look right too. Get a PPI before you do anything, and make a reasonable offer if you love the car.

POST 21Original post

As Phil said, make sure you get a PPI before proceeding. One good thing is that this dealer appears NOT to be associated in any way with Luxury Motors, LLC out of Chicago, which has a dubious reputation. Make sure the Turbo wing is operable. Some guys fitted the Turbo wing but didn't complete the job and the wing is always in the UP position. If you are really interested in the car, maybe a Florida Rennlister in the Miami/FT. Lauderdale area would be willing to check it out for you. You could start another thread asking for help to check out the car.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 6350156

What is a "panic button"?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 6350608

Turbo wing on a C4S will HAVE to be in the always up position because the hydraulic posts will NOT fit the C4S in the down position.

POST 24Original post

yea, but it looks cool ! the only thing that would look better is a GT2 wing on it

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 6350791

Probably hazard light button. Just a guess.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 6350156

If you think 44.5k CAD is too expensive, I'd stay away from any US car. Rule of thumb is about Price in USD X 1.5 and that will get you the car in Canada. Make sure you do the math! Exchange rate: Price * 1.3 Taxes: 6% import, 5% GST RIV fees: 230 AC fees: 100 Transport: 1000-2000 Modifications (DRL,etc): few hundreds etc, etc, etc. I've done it twice already, but the exchange rate was very interesting at the time. Cheers, M-A

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 6350156

This one looks nice! I'm not a fan of the turbo wing (switch to GT2?) but the interior is great. Seats and wheels are awesome. Price is totally reasonable if it doesn't have any major problems.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 6350375

+1 - car looks great, esp for the price. For reference, I sold my 02 C4S, 23k mi, 8 mos left on CPO warranty, Lapis Blue/Beige, with very few options but in fantastic shape, for $44k in October 08. This red car is nice, with some great options including the wheels, sport seats, looks like sport exhaust button on dash(?), etc. Not crazy about the turbo tail - I prefer the clean look of the widebody with the standard rear tail on the C4S. Definitely get PPI, but seriously nice example from the info provided on the site.

POST 29Original post

One thing I noticed in the engine bay photos: low coolant? The tank appears to be empty & should be at least partially filled with either pink or (older type) green fluid. Not necessarily a show-stopper but definitely worth questioning in a PPI.

POST 30Original post

I know of an 03 C4S about to come up for sale in Edmonton. Seal Gray, sport seats, 6 spd, 19" wheels plus stock wheels. Mileage around 50k kilometers or less I think. PM me for contact info....
