Suggestion
$1380 seems a bit high -- you could replace the clutch and the RMS for that amount.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am currently in the process of negotiating a purchase of a 2002 C4S, and I need to get a PPI done. Any suggestions in the San Bernardino area? The car has been maintained at Walter's Porsche of Riverside, so that's always an option. They have all the service records, history, etc.
I appreciate the offer! I may take you up on that.
The owner is a PCA member. At this point, he has been very helpful, and seems very willing to work with me. I'll see where things go with the PPI. I am comfortable going directly to Walter's Porsche - any reason I shouldn't be from your perspective?
The vehicle that I'm considering is blue with a natural brown interior. It seems fairly well equipped, with Litronics, full leather interior, etc. It has had the clutch and brakes done at Walter's Porsche recently. Here it is:
Really can't see too much in those pics. I always like to look at the engine bay to judge how much "love" the car gets, but that's just my voodoo.
I haven't heard anything about Walter's Porsche. If you're paying the bill on the PPI, then for that moment they work for you. It's nice to be able to talk to the dealer where it's serviced, so you can get some history. Plus if it's spent it's whole life in Cali then it should be in good condition.
I think the 4S is a great choice, but then again, I am a little biased.
Good Luck, I hope it works out!
No worries... I'll get the clears! I just have to actually buy the car first! I'm hoping to get the PPI done this week and finalize the deal next week. Clear markers will be the first mod!
I was raised on the Cayenne forum, so I can take a little abuse!
Actually that's true of the Cayenne forum too, if you've ever been over there.
I've also been known to post in OT as well, and we all know how that can get. Especially during election years.
Hopefully this C4S deal will work out, and then I'll visit here a bit more often.
If you decide to hire a shop, call Loren Beggs at 911Design.

He has one of the premier indy shops in SoCal and is a master of all things Porsche.
I can vouch for the fact that Dennis has had his fair share of abuse in the Pig Pen. He takes it like a true gentleman, and would be a great addition over here.
Quick update: the negotiations are complete. We have agreed on a price, pending the successful PPI. If all goes well, I'll pick up the car in the next 10 days and have a nice road trip home.
And then... yes... I'll get the clear markers!
Another quick update... the PPI is complete. They found a few minor issues that are no surprise. For example, it needs new tires. I knew that. It needs new wiper blades, and new floor mats. No surprise there. Everything else checked out, although one thing did come up. The tech noted a slight crankshaft seal leak. He suspects it is the RMS. This is a very small leak, not actually dripping, but there was some oil present on the bell housing. The RMS was replaced in 2006. The recommendation is to replace the RMS at $1,380. I have proposed to the seller that we split the cost for this repair, and have it done at Walter's Porsche. Still waiting to hear...
Any thoughts? Is this a major issue, or should I not be too worried about it?
It's really not a major issue. The main impact is that you will have to add oil more often. Eventually it will need to be replaced. An indy could do it for $800. The stealership is pricey, but if u split the cost now, it will cost u the same either way.
New tires = $800 for Sumitomo IIIs (see current thread).
Wiper Blades can be bought at any Kragen, Pep Boys, etc. (They r not like our Cayenne wipers)
Congrats! You will LOVE it!!
OK - just heard from the seller. He has agreed to pay half for the RMS. I am also having the catalytic converter (not sure which one) replaced under warranty - they noticed an issue during the PPI. New floormats, and yes - I am having the clear markers put on at the dealer (no charge for installation).
Everything is moving along! I pick up the car on March 18th.
