Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

From my own experience w/ both E generations from Affalterbach (the previous previous gen was from Porsche in Stuttgart!) I personally prefer the immediately previous W210 gen's build and simplicity (bulletproof, mine has 80,000 miles, total repair costs <$500, actually much less).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Picked up a new ride for the Wife the other day. It's "different" to drive compared to what I'm used to. Almost a good different. It's big, comfy, relaxed and not really driver involved at all but still goes like stink when you hit the loud pedal. '04 E55 AMG Renntech Stage I (514 hp / 566 lb/ft.) As I picked it up: Biggie Smalls approves Day 2: Dropped it and put the Stock grill back on (don't care as much for the CL style grill) Andy

OK...it's for both of us. I have to admit I've never really been that hot on Mercedes as a brand. As I've matured I can now see more of the allure of them though. She's wanted one since we got married and deserved to have transportation that she had as much interest in as I do in the other cars in the garage. So I gave in BUT the catch was I got to pick the model we got.

POST 5Original post

beautiful!! and what a cute "accessory" - is the name "Biggie Smalls"? Dropped it, is that adjustable?

Yup...Yorkie is named Biggie smalls. They have Air suspensions. You can actually select 3 different heights and stiffness' on the car stock. The first pictures you see are in Sport 2 mode as low as it goes from the factory. You can get electronic controllers OR as I did get adjustable links to the suspension sensors to go further than the factory settings. Couldn't have been easier to install and adjust. Didn't even have to pull the wheels off of the car to do it. Andy

POST 7Original post

So, how many cars do you have now Congrats; I'm sure you got a HECK of a deal on it.

POST 8Original post

Very Nice! I am starting to like the Mercedes line up again. My current favorite SUV is the GL 320CDIs. Too bad they don't import the 420CDIs.

Ha...4ish cars. My brother and I share a beater pick-up so I suppose 4.5. The way I see it I'm still misisng a dedicated track car so I need at least one more. I just get too attached to them to get rid of them. Thank goodness my wife shares in my obsession with these things! She's a keeper and has given up luxuries in life to make cars happen for me in the past and deserved a car to call "hers".

POST 10Original post

Andy, gorgeous car! Congratulations. It is hard not to fall in love with Mercedes AMG products when you sit in the luxurious interior and floor the gas pedal. It feels and sounds like you are in a souped up 60s muscle car. I fixed up a salvaged SL600 (not an AMG, but a big V12) for my wife. We liked it so much, we bought another and gave the rebuilt car to my dad. Someday, I dream of upgrading it to a SL65....what and amazing car. 600+ hp and 700+ ft/lbs of torque. Nothing depreciates faster either. Someday, I might actually be able to afford one.

Isn't that the truth! I picked it up for roughly 1/3 of what it cost new and it's only got 32k miles on it.

POST 13Original post

Nice.. .yeah they're very inexpensive nowadays compared to what they were selling for (what I got ours for) back in 03/04. I presume you've done the common issues people experience with them? Airbags (which are different than the S-class air suspension) tend to blow in the rear, supercharger belt gets noisy and squeaks, etc. Other than that, it's a fine car. I used to get anything between 8mpg to 10mpg. Here was our 03:

POST 14Original post

Great car, they've always made great big ol' V8s. That's crazy adjustable, but I think it looks better in the first pics. It already has a very nice stance, plus lowered that much it's gonna pound those speed bumps. Good for you for getting it for your wife, mine still loves her A3, she was asking me about chipping it the other day!

That day may be fast approaching Mark, I've seen CL65s in the 50s and 60s!, can't be much longer for the SLs to dive there. A twin turbo R230 SL600 can easily make SL65 power levels on the standard turbos with a cheap ecu boost mod (600 makes 612 ft lbs and 65 makes 738) but there's a little more than just the motor in the 65 I guess! I personally could live with it not turning as well and riding a little softer, 600 is fine by me! +1 on AMG, perfect musclecar fix, love the power of that W211 gen E55 you bought Andy, good choice. From my own experience w/ both E generations from Affalterbach (the previous previous gen was from Porsche in Stuttgart!) I personally prefer the immediately previous W210 gen's build and simplicity (bulletproof, mine has 80,000 miles, total repair costs <$500, actually much less). But there's just nothing on the road that moves quite like a W211 E55 with a pulley kit and a little ecu mapping, 500+ ft lbs at the rear wheels easily and that ear to ear grin you used to have to go back to 60s iron for! Best, Hans

POST 16Original post

Nice ride - I love the "sleeper" cars. If you don't know about it, you would have absolutely no idea of its potential. Good luck with it. By the way - I got my wife a Honda Odyssey Touring edition - I feel jipped that she didn't want an E55, perhaps when the little man gets older.

I agree, I'm also in love with the W210 AMG. When they get cheapER, I think I'll grab one.
