His wife drove it work with the bra installed on a day in which it rained heavily followed by bright hot sunshine.

I chuckle evry time I see some dufus running around in the mid of winter with a bra installed on his pride and joy.

I know of two cases heer in the United Arab Emirates which has left cars fitted with a clear bra with a similar tan line.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As they say a pic is worth a thousand words... Hmmm... are you sure that what the pic shows is due to scratches and not paint fading at a different rate. It's hard to tell the difference from that pic alone. I would be inclined to get a few opinions about it from reputable body shops, before bringing out the power tools and polishes.
A friend of mine had a similar issue on a 72 911T. That car was red and it looked closer to a pinkish faded red under the bra. The theory at the time (this was 20 years ago) was that the dampness under the bra in combination with sitting in the sun caused the moisture to bake into the paint. This was so long ago that I don't remember how it was resolved, but maybe it's food for thought. How long has the bra been off? If there is any truth to the water theory, maybe it makes sense to strip off any wax and sealent in the affected area so that the paint can breathe and try drying out in the sun. I hope there turns out to be a simple solution for this.
Guys,
Sorry about the paint!
A result of waterbased paint and the chemical reaction with the chemical based clear bra glue. That's why I don't have a bra but paint the front bumper once a year!
Ciao,
Johannes E.
A friend of mine had the same experience with a '69 911E. It was red. His wife drove it work with the bra installed on a day in which it rained heavily followed by bright hot sunshine. She never mentioned to him about the rain that day. A few sunny days later when he removed the bra -presto, pink nose. As he did body work for a living, I think he found a way to rub MOSt of it out. In the end, he resprayed the hood.
I chuckle evry time I see some dufus running around in the mid of winter with a bra installed on his pride and joy.
Cheers,
Find the best body shop you know and take it to them. You might be amazed at what they can do. If they say you need to respray, you can respray (which will not be the end of the work IMHO). Sorry to see . . .
Looks like "fogging'.
Bra instructions even go as far as saying "do not put bra on freshly waxed finish as some waxes have moisture in them which evaporates over a period of about 24 hours".
Try parking it in the sun for a day or so, or a light application of a heat gun/hair dryer before you push the repaint button.
Regards,
BD
Kilrgt, I know you got anew hood. How much and what kind? I feel that this is some sort of paint fade from moisture in the bra and car being in sun after rain. Guess I can get a respray and/or a new hood. I am really upset by this whole ordeal, as the website does not make any specific notes as to remove immeditely after rain and don't put car in sun.
Before you make any decisions or get too upset, I would simple take it to the best bodyshop in your area. Those guys can work wonders. If they can't, they should be able to tell you immediately whether it needs to be resprayed. Then you can get upset or look at this as a chance to upgrade re: kilgt. I am always looking for excuses myself. Damnit honey, I spilled coffee on the rear center console, I guess I should replace it with CF
This is the avenue I am going to pursue. I put a call into the company to see if they have had anyone with a similar problem. I am liking the hood r/r.
How long like this? As others have said may just be moisture trapped in paint from bra give it a few days see what happens. I would be very suprised if this didn't polish out. Can't imagine it penetrated the clearcoat and faded the color base. But stranger stuff has happened.
The discoloration is from having moisture under the bra, and leaving it out in the sun. The color coat is not affected it is the clearcoat that has become clouded. Let it sit out in the sun for a while and let the moisture get out, then go over it with some fine cut cleaner. The haze will eventually go away. This is the only downside to having a Bra is that if you get water under it, you must take it off at once to prevent the clearcoat from turning cloudy.
Hey Stan...
Serious question...how long do you leave your bra on for? I think thats what they call "fogging" as someone a few posts before mine said.
That is some serious discoloration. Down here in Portland we have some good body shops -- do you have "Kadels" auto body shops up there?
After you get this squared away, seriously consider running without a bra...vinyl or otherwise. Stone chips are a fact of life for us. Its not that big of a deal to get the front bumper re-sprayed every two years...about $350-$400.
I would leave the bra on for a couple weeks at a time. I would do a quick wash with it on the car; making sure that I got remnants of soap fom under the bra. I talked to a person at Speed Lingerie and they said that many customers leave the bra on all the time with no ill effects. One person came to get ome stichong repaired and told them the bra haden't been off in 2 years. Furthermore, they said they have never had this issue before. I think the bra will now be relegated to track duty. I plan to leave the car in the sun ( if it will ever quit raining ) in hopes of evening out the tan. It does appear that the clear coat is fogged. I am going to leave it alone for a few days. I talked to a detail guy and he though tit should be wet-sanded. Is it possible for the clear coat to absorb moisture and look pasty? If this doesn't resolve itself I think I will look into the CF hood that KilrGT put on his car. Thanks for the help, advice and condolences.John.
Last year I put the bra on, did a track day in the dry sun, loaded up onto the trailer and drove home 6 hours in some rain. Left the car about one day then took off the bra. I got a fade mark right accross the lowest 3 inches of the hood. They are not as bad a yours but still there and I am just living with them for now. It's like a haze that won't come out. The car's been in the sun plenty so it's not gonna bake out.
Who would ever figure the paint could haze up that fast. I hope someone can learn from my mistake.
ya know stan, i owe you an apology. that came off wrong. i was NOT calling YOU a dufus. (well, plus...i was only quoting an earlier poster......but...)
its unfortunate what happened to your car and i shouldn't make fun of it. i just thought it was pretty common knowledge that you couldn't leave bras on when/after it rains. sorry 'bout that. hopefully you'll get things shined back up again, pronto.
Thanks for the apology, but none needed. I can laugh at myself for things that I do and I can be made fun of too. I can certainly be a dufus for leaving the bra on the car, the instructions say to remove when wet. I'm a man and men don't need instructions. HaHa. It's a car, its got a little blemish on the hood, not that big of a deal. I can still get a new hood, respray the one I have, leave it or sell the hole damn car. It's a thing. I own the car it doesn't own me. Thanks for thinking about my feelings; the world needs some more people like you.
StanSoph: And just to add to your reply to washington951, forgetting about the bleached line in your car, the rest of the car looks magnificent!
Hope all works out!
Cheers.
John - (Sh*t, it was more fun calling you Stan!) Look at the bright side! If you decide to replace the hood, you could use the old one as a snowboard. You would have a genuine, one of a kind, Porsche snowboard! And it comes with the PFTI option (Porsche Freezing Temperature Indicator), which is a built in thermostat. If the temp gets too cold for you to be outside, the water in the fogged part of the snowboard would freeze, giving you a thin sheet of ice on the front of the board, which is the indicator that it is time to go inside. Wouldnt THAT be cool!
John - I am really not trying to make light of the situation. I know from personal experience that a good laugh can sometimes help. Since I don't have anything to add to the solutions that others have already posted, I thought if I could make you smile, even for a few seconds, it might help.
I let the car go topless for the past 2 days; I think the tan is starting to even out. I can only hope it will continue to improve with time and sun. Kidding aside; the offending area has started to slowly return to normal. I think the clear coat absorbed some of the moisture from the bra. I would like to take some pics and compare them to before, my wife took the camera on a trip. I will have to wait until Monday. If it is still bad down the line I'll get the Gemballa hood and cut this hood up and make me a giant wing for the back; ricer style, sheet metal screws and all. This DUFUS has learned his lesson, the bra and mirror covers are for the track only!!!
gr8330,
I know of two cases heer in the United Arab Emirates which has left cars fitted with a clear bra with a similar tan line. The place that fitted the clear stuff compensated by paying for new paint jobs. However, keep in mind the intenses sun, heat and humidity we suffer from here during May to October which could have an accelerating factor.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
The bumper was affected also. It is hard to tell in the picture and the contrast is more dramaic against the darker portion of the hood. I'll post some more pics when my wife gets back from NoDak.
This is the result of washing the car w/ the bra still on it. The chemicals and any type of debris stuck in between the bra and paint reacts to it and starts an early oxidation process. It would only make it worse if the area under the bra is not dried off right away and left to soak in the sun. We've seen this happen quite often for those using leather bras.......the only thing to do now is repaint as these areas are now permanently damaged.
Stan, do you mind sending us some high-res pics of those areas........we could use a few more of these for our website. Thanks!
