Suggestion
Besides, CA tax payers would all be up at arms, the teachers' unions would call for heads on a platter and the Governator would definitely hear from his constituents if CHP actually began using Porsches!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

ATLANTA, June 27, 2005 - The California Highway Patrol has announced today that its is standardizing on the Porsche 987 Boxster as its 2006 pursuit vehicles to replace its aging fleet of Chevrolet Camaros.
CHP spokesman Officer Bruce Nowwegotcha said that after extensive testing the Porsche Boxster was found to have all of attributes necessary for a proper pursuit vehicle. "The Boxster has 2 trunks which allows us to stash all of our police stuff" Officer Nowwegotcha was quoted as saying. "The Camaros were at the end of their useful life, and were never able to be used fully given that CHP officers are prohibited from wearing mullets while on duty" he added.
The initial order for 200 Porsche Boxsters will be completed by the end of 2005 with the majority of units being placed in service in high enforcement areas.
The 987 "Police Interceptor" Boxster will feature a 3.8L 381Hp "power kit" engine mated to a 7 speed DSG heavy duty transmission. This will be the first use of this specially designed power plant and transmission in the Boxster.
Porsche Cars North America spokesman Lorna Gattasped said that the CHP contract represents a new market for Porsche in the US and expects other states to watch closely the CHP purchase.
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche police cars for the United States and Canada.

They have actually been testing the Volvo sedan out here. The freeway by me is one of the fastest roads in the country. It is also the most ticketed in all California. I have a friend who works the area and they give out multiple tickets for 120mph + speeds plus free tow truck rides after the ticket.
Orient: You sure had me going on this one... until I remembered that California is bankrupt and no way can it place an order for 200 super-duper Boxters!
i have heard they are looking at the dodge magnum - lots of room for their 'cop stuff'......let's just hope they don't try to follow anyone thru the canyons...
Well South Carolina state troopers had an E39 M5 donated to them a few years ago when BMW built its plant in Spartansburg. And that was used for their highway patrol I think.
So...a Porsche isn't so out of the ordinary if it WASN'T a roadster. Besides, CA tax payers would all be up at arms, the teachers' unions would call for heads on a platter and the Governator would definitely hear from his constituents if CHP actually began using Porsches!
It's already bad enough out here in CA with them using plain white and tan cars with no light bars. And as everyone has seen on TV you can't out run the helicopter
I believed it...until is aw the boxster, then I knew it had to be BS.
Here in IL, the Illinois State Police now use a fleet of miscellaneous cars they have aquired from criminals. This is in addition to crown vics, explorers, camaros, impalas, and grand prix unmarked cars. Actually over memorial day I saw them pulling people over with an old 1996 style Caprice, I almost fell over laughing.
