A question: If I adjust the Feal coilover to extend 20mm, does that correspond to a 20mm increase in the ride height?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

About 2 years ago, I put Feal coilovers on my '02 C4S and had an independent Porsche specialist align and corner balance the car at that time. A few months ago, I noticed that the rear tires were severely worn on the inside and required replacement after only ~5-6,000 miles on them. (Front tires did not show uneven wear and appear to be fine.) I only drive the car 1-2,000 miles each year, so not sure if the uneven wear was primarily due to pre- or post-coilover use--or both. I had my local Goodyear install new rear tires and do an alignment. The closest to spec they could get each wheel was -2.3 deg camber, apparently due to the lower stance of the car due to the coilovers. A few questions: 1. Is it the coilovers that are preventing the car from being properly aligned? If I raise the car a bit (1/2 inch? a full inch?) will it allow the car to be properly aligned? 2. Is -2.3 deg camber significant in terms of wear on the tires? I really don't want to eat thru tires every 5k miles! 3. Should I take the car to a Porsche specialist for alignment rather than some place like Goodyear? Basically, I'm stumped as to the best way forward and would appreciate advice. FWIW, I only drive on surface roads. I did one track event before the coilovers and probably won't go again--at least not with any frequency--so I don't need the car set up for that purpose. (And, yes, I know how to spell "alignment" but don't know how to correct my typo in the title...) Thanks, AEP

POST 2Original post

The lower you go, the more camber and the more inside wear you will have. You can try taking it up to GT3 specs which should get you to ~(1.2) camber in the front and ~(1.9) camber in the rear with factory arms. Toe will probably be ~0. That will help with tire wear. You can even go to (1) F and (1.5) rear which will help even more with tire wear.

For sure, Tarret GT3 sway bars and drop links sure help.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Appreciate the thoughts above. I measured ride height (per the specs listed in this post: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...red-c4s-2.html ) and my car is pretty close to the x73/x74 height of 118mm in the rear (I have 18" wheels). That should allow me to raise it all around by ~20mm to the RoW Sport level, which should go a long way to correcting the camber issue. A question: If I adjust the Feal coilover to extend 20mm, does that correspond to a 20mm increase in the ride height? Seems like it should, but it also seems like that would be too easy... Thanks, AEP

POST 6Original post

The ratio is not 1:1 between front strut:ride height but close enough. At the rear, though it is more like 1.4:1 Search for motion ratio 996 suspension on the web if you need it more precise.

POST 7Original post

What condition are your bushings in? When I bought mine, they couldnt get the alignment into spec. I changed all the arms and the problem went away. Now, with my Ohlins set to X74 height, Im at -1.5 camber with no crazy wear issues. Also, all the suspension bits I changed out are stock except for the Ohlins and sway-bar links.
