I had Michelin PS2 and just replaced them with a set SUMITOMO HRZIII and I have not noticed any difference in tire noise, the SUMI are pretty quiet.

Verdsteins are super quite compared to my Dunlops at 5000 miles and reasonably priced to me, just not sure if they make in a 18" and last time I checked not sold at tire rack.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I currently have Sumitomo HRZ III which are the noisiest tires with the worst ride possible. After looking over the Tire Rack website, the Michelin Pilot Super Sports got rave reviews for handling, ride and noise. Do any of you have any experience with these?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Larry
I found the HTR Z III's to be very quiet.
Not sure if the Michelins are better, but worth a try. They are quite a few dollars....I found Pirellis to be loud and the Conti's to be ok until the end....Tires do get louder as they wear.
Best of luck.
AD08 handle amazingly, btw, but are tad louder than the sumi's. But, well worth it if you drive the car like ti was meant to be drivien.
JB
(I am in a turbo, so 8/11" 18" fitment)
My Sumis aren't too loud at all. As they approach the end of their life, they aren't as loud as Pirelli P Zeros with this level of wear.
I've always liked Continental tires. They are usually very quiet. I have a set on our Cayenne now, and I'll seriously consider a set for my C4S when the time comes.
I found the Sumis to be much quieter than the original pilot sports that the car had on when I bought it.
I can't imagine how much quieter tires could get.

Actually I went for a DE this weekend with my new SUMI and I have to say that they are pretty good. Not as good as the PS2 but for almost half the price, I think they are a great choice.
what car, what suspension what driving conditions
check the conti extreme DW's I really like them
how long have you had your car - is this your first porsche
Conti DWs, great tires!! Great traction in wet and dry and quiet...
I have had the Sumis HTZ 3, Bridgestone 050A, Conti 2s, Dunlop Sport 8000 series and PS2s and so far I like these the best....
Also highly rated on Tirerack reviews.
My Conti 2 were the least favorite of list above, but theses DWs are awesome for a mid price tire between PS2 on the high end and Sumi or Hankook V-12s on the low end.......
Then, wouldn't
anything
be better?
Touring tires are probably going to be the quietest, but the performance will be significantly decreased.
Look for tires that have a continuous band around the center the the tread pattern - generally, it's the interruptions of the tread sipes touching the pavement that makes noise.
My new DWs seem relatively quiet... but then pretty much most new tires do compared to the old set you just replaced.
Considering you have a high performance car and equipped it with maximum performance summer tires, what is your expectation of 'quiet?'
I would also like to ask how many miles on the Sumi's what year MFG and how are they wearing (alignment can produce excessive noise)
I never thought of the Sumi's as noisy but he DW's are pretty quiet....
I've got about 3,000 miles on a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS. So far they are very quiet, but I don't consider 3K to be enough miles to make an accurate recommendation.
super sports not available yet (n series for porsche)but coming soon.endless tire debate, for me michelin or bridgestone, you get what you pay for,in my humble opinion good luck!
My Sumi HTRZ 3's are quiter than the Continental SportContacts I used to have. The Conti's were pretty worn, though. Honestly, my exhaust is louder, so I don't really hear the tires.
PS2's sound great for about the first year. Then as they wear & harden, they transmit a lot more noise. Many other tires do the same. That's why Ed recommends that you attend enough club events to need a new set of tires each year. Noise problem solved.
OH YEA!
James I got 1 DE event out of my new tires and thought...YIKES!! these have to last longer than 2 events...I made a few changes to my set-up and they are holding up fine now....they "might" make it a year (season)
No but I am on my 5th set of PS2 on 3 different cars. Best all around tire with the possible exception of the new Super Sports. You rarely hear any complaint other than the price of admission. I have gotten 30,000 miles out of 2 sets 2 different cars. That being said any new ultra high perf tire should be quiet & get quieter as the tread depth is reduced leading up to that golden time when properly maintained tires reach 1/32nd" treaddepth across the entire tread surface acheving mazimum cornering capability & minimum noise & maximizing treadwear life.
The PS2's are the quietest tires i've had on my 996, privious culrpits were the Conti' and Pirelli's
I agree the age and wear have a big impact on decibels, the odler the louder they get...
Check mfg date, as some retailers are selling tires that could be 2plus years old. The experts
say you should not be running with tires past the 5th year of mfg.
I need tries again, and will be looking at the new Michelin's replacing the PS2''s
Good luck
Hankook ventus EVO V12's are quiet. I rarely blast the radio and never hear the
tires. The Hankooks are off and in a few days the Kumho Ecsta XS's are going on.
Anyone know if they are a loud tire?
8000 miles on my new ps2. i do not think they are too noisy, but i just purchased the car and have not used any other brands to compare with. i did have them on an e39/m62 and liked them there. unfortunately they are expensive.
I'm replacing mine today with the Hankooks. The ones I had on my car were due to be replaced. I don't know how old they were as I purchased the C4 last Nov. The EVO's had favorable reviews as far I found on the web. I'll update later.
I have the hankooks and have been running them for 3 months. A very quiet tire. I have found the sidewalls to be a little on the soft side but running the tires at factory pressure (36 front / 44 rear) fixed that issue.
Verdsteins are super quite compared to my Dunlops at 5000 miles and reasonably priced to me, just not sure if they make in a 18" and last time I checked not sold at tire rack.
