Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I picked up a set of 996 GT3 brakes and front GT3 uprights. The question now is do I need anything else? I am thinking GT3 master cylinder. What about the brake booster is the GT3 different from the C2? And the really big question is what is the best ABS module to use that will work in a 1999 C2 with GT3 brakes? Will the 996 GT3 cup car ABS module work, part number 996.355.049.92 Thanks!

POST 2Original post

No need to change the master cylinder or ABS system, everything will work well together as is.

POST 3Original post

If you have ABS what is the advantage of brake system upgrading. More stoppinp power simply results in earlier ABS activation.... The real answer is to disable ABS unless/until PSM senses that the car is not following the directional line set by the front wheels. On the other hand if you could completely disable ABS and only use PSM...?

I don't agree with this. In my 996 race car I have Cup brakes, stock ABS that is functional, and the PSM is turned off. Even with racing slicks and the stopping power associated with the extra grip, ABS almost never engages. I only have issues when I make a mistake or if the braking zone is very bumpy. If the ABS is engaging, you are doing something wrong as a driver. On the other hand, racing with PSM turned on will absolutely kill your power and overheat your brakes. However I do agree that upgrading the brakes on a street driven car is kind of pointless. There is plenty of braking capability in terms of both stopping power and fade resistance with the stock system.

Well that makes things easy. Thanks! Just out of curiosity is there a difference between the C2 and GT3 master cylinder?
