I checked the IR LEDs with my iPhone and 4 of the eight are working (2 pairs opposite from each other) Once when checking this, 4 of the LEDs would alternate in a "plus +" pattern.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am getting so frustrated with this rain sensor!! I have a 99 Carrera with factory rain sensor (option XD3). The system worked flawlessly for the first several of years. In 2006 I had to have the windsheild replaced and it has never seemed to work exactly right after that. I was bored a couple of weeks ago so I thought I would tinker with it to see if I could make it work correctly. In the process, I ended up cracking my windshield by being stupid I had it replaced yesterday (thank you State Farm) with factory OEM glass (Sekurit) and purchased a new Porsche adhesive pad to mount the sensor to the windshield. This is what it is doing: 1. Sometimes it will wipe on a regular interval (10 sec, 16 sec, or 21 sec...it varies for some reason, but it's always a regular interval each time). It will wipe on this interval even if there is no rain (like you put your wipers on intermittent) Before I started messing with it a couple of weeks ago, it would work fine for about 30 seconds if I pushed firmly on the sensor. It won't even do this now. 2. The green light on the sensor itself is on. I checked the IR LEDs with my iPhone and 4 of the eight are working (2 pairs opposite from each other) Once when checking this, 4 of the LEDs would alternate in a "plus +" pattern. It seems fixed on only 4 LEDs now. Can any one who has a working system verify how yours works? 3. Since yesterday, the system seems to have a "hiccup" it starts to wipe but then stops after it's moved an inch or two. It will do this usually twice and then finally do a full wipe. I've removed the relay from position 16 and opened it up to examine it. The armature does not appear to be fused and seems to operate freely. There is no apparent damage (overheating, bad solder joints, corrosion, etc.) I had the dealership order a new one yesterday, but it is $80 and I'm not positive that is the problem. I don't know where to go from here..... Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Did you check the relay and reset the interval after the changes? The wiping cycles can be modified if desired by adjusting the control setting on the relay. Turning this setting approx. 45 degrees towards plus (marked on the relay housing) corresponds to a doubling of the wiping cycles. Similarly, turning the control 45 degrees towards minus halves the wiping cycle.

"I've removed the relay from position 16 and opened it up to examine it. The armature does not appear to be fused and seems to operate freely. There is no apparent damage (overheating, bad solder joints, corrosion, etc.) I just went outside and set the potentiometer to full sensitive. Still operating the same way. It will wipe on every other cycle with a hiccup in between. Spraying a mist of water directly over the sensor has no effect.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone help me with this below. Just park your car in a dark garage and then use your phone to act like you are going to take a picture of the sensor. The IR will show up on your phone or camera....
