GLWS, would highly recommend holding on to the $ until the 991 shows up, then make your move on leftover 09-10 997's or step WAY up to the newest Pcar.

At that price another 10K could you get you a very nice used GT3 or TT.

To be fair, if you "move up" how, or why, would you use the next car anymore frequently?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yikes....decided to put my 996 up for sale. The one I said I'd never sell and keep forever. Could easily change my mind yet......
https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...a-2-in-nj.html
I wondered where you had been hiding. I'm sorry to hear that you're contemplating selling.
What are you considering buying? It will be hard to beat the car you already have.
Been crazy busy with work....never drive the 996 any more. Managed only about 1500 miles in the past year
No idea what comes next. Most likely another Porsche, but at this point not really looking that hard.....
GLWS, would highly recommend holding on to the $ until the 991 shows up, then make your move on leftover 09-10 997's or step WAY up to the newest Pcar.
Thanks.
Thats pretty much where my mind is going. As I'm hardly ever driving the 996 now I figure I may as well just move it on and park the money.
Hopefully by the time all that happens I will be in a considerably calmer work mode and actualy have the time to drive one again!!
Actually price is about right for private sale according to KBB! If you are comparing the trashed out junk on Ebay, craigslist and autotrader then yep, the price is high. You get what you pay for!
Thank you sir! It really is in perfect condition. I frequently get asked if it is new.
I've seen these priced from low 20's to low 40's so they really are ALL over the place.
But a fully documented, well optioned, mint condition car is worth what it's worth. Now, that may or may not be what I'm asking for - market will decide
For that very reason, I didn't!!
As I am in no hurry, I'd rather take my time and sell privately and then have cash at the dealer. Always a better negotiating position.
Actually, your cars value will loose hundreds of dollars a month due to depreciation. Something few consider when not being in a hurry to sell. Your car is worth more today than tomorrow.
Another point, a dealer would rather have a creditworthy customer that will finance thru them than one with cash. Cash used to talk, no more. Dealers also understand that it is harder to get a potential buyer to part with his cash, than to sell with in house financing or lease. People will spend more freely when borrowing as opposed to using their own money. The best is a payment shopper, as far a dealer profits.
Good luck with what ever you decide. Beautiful car BTW!
I get that but we all know that the market sunk big time on the 996. The upswing has not happened yet. At that price another 10K could you get you a very nice used GT3 or TT.
I really hope the OP gets what he is asking because that means the market value on my car is looking up as well.
You are mostly right, but if you look around, while my price is certainly towards the upper end of the scale, it's still in the range....but then I believe this is about as good a car for its age as you will see.
Anyway, we all know asking price is not selling price and in the end the market will decide, not me. I'm not unrealistic on where the market is.
As another poster said, there are plenty 20 something cars around but you get what you pay for.
Dealers like people who trade in cars because its another opportunity to make money. I pondered trading mine in when I had to buy a new DD. I took it down and they offered in the teens. I was serioulsly pissed but it was when everyones inventory was bloated with the high mpg cars and the offers that dealers make are never higher than the expected depreciation of waiting a year to sell.
As for the credit people. I think you mean that they prefer people with credit that have no financial boundaries.
For what's on the car and its condition, price seems right to me. It may take a little to get someone who understands the difference between a PSE and a hacked stock muffler--but that goes with the territory. The wheels and PSE alone added close to $5,000 to the price of the car.
Although some dealers may want to take advantage of you, there are those that will trade fairly. Just traded my red 04 Cab and to my surprise was offered high thirtees. We did the trade. Hats off to the boys at Porsche of Chattanooga.
So, good luck.
I mean the best customer is one that qualifies by the skin of his teeth. One that is actually surprised that he got the loan. He knows he is not in a strong position to beat the dealer down on price and is only concerned with monthly payments he can afford, rather than total amount financed. This type of customer will usually succumb to all types of dealer profit add ons and higher interest rates, just to be able to get the vehicle.
While the price is on the higher end, it is by no means out of the ballpark.
If he wanted to sell it quickly, I would think a $33k - $35 is a fair range.
It is a well maintained vehicle. Yes you can find 996's in the $20's, but spending a few extra $$ to get a fantastic specimen is worth it.
Really sucks that you only have been able to put 1,500 miles on it in the past year.
Sometimes it makes more sense to finance a new car if yoU get a very low interest rate, or better yet zero interest. If you have zero interest and put your $100k into an account earning 8%, your better off then buying the car cash and doing nothing with your money. Well not nothing, but by passing over the chance to invest it
Sorry didn't mean to hijack.
Yah 10k to trade up to a GT3 would be nice. But...........
Wasn't it just in the news about a guy trading back and forth on craigslist starting with a can opener and ending up with a nice car. Strange but work it long enough and there might be somebody that will drop the money. Just don't sell to a guy from Etheopia asking for your bank info to do the money transfer
Ok.. I'll aks the question...
You have a beautiful 996.. the one you said you would never sell.. but now you are looking to sell, in part because you never use it.
To be fair, if you "move up" how, or why, would you use the next car anymore frequently?
I don't understand the logic/need to "move up" on a car that only logs 2K miles/year.
I think what you need to do is simply
drive this one more
.. It might rekindle your fondness for the car and you will learn that, honestly, the performance advantage of the "newer" car is marginal for street use. Perhaps its just a showmanship to have the newest car out there.
You mention a Cayenne in your sig.. is that the car getting all the use? Maybe 1-2 days a week take the 996 out instead..
We read lots of tales of guys with the "old" cars.. who have had them 20,30,40 years and how cool that must have been to have owned 1 car that long. Well.. they didn't get to have the old cars if they were always buying new ones.
I thought that if I could get 35k for a C4 Cab with 20,000 miles I might sell. I advertised and didn't get one call. I don't see anyone selling their 996 for a price in the thirties.
I sold my 40th about a month ago for a price north of $35k but less than $40k. I had 3 solid offers within a week and a half of listing it on autotrader.com. Therefore, there is hope for the OP and all of the other 996 brethren!
Don't know what kind of mileage you had but your 2004 40th sold for just under $100K when new, had the X51 engine package and a host of "special" features.......not really comparing apples to apples to compare your car to his....
Read the post before mine. I posted my recent experience because Frankfast said he didn't see anyone selling a 996 in the 30's. Last I checked, a 40th is a 996...
There's also a boatload of difference between a high mileage/well worn Mk1 996 and a low mileage Mk2 996.
The P-car dealer near me is trying to sell a 04 C2 with low mileage and no CPO for.... well..... take a look at this link
http://www.winnerporsche.com/invento...&_sort=yearasc
So, finally sold. Not because it was 'hard' to sell, but because I really didnt try very hard atall.
Finally put it on cars.com just before Christmas and had an interest before New year and we will close it out this week.
Never thought it would go for the original asking price and it didn't - but if you dont ask.....
Low 30's is fine with me tho......
