Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Saw this a few days ago. Background is that i've had to add about 3/4 of a gallon of distilled water to the cooling system. There was some seepage where the cap is at the expansion tank. I'm hoping this isn't you know, THAT!
I took a few photos short of taking the wheel off, which I intend to do tomorrow.
so far, no coolant in the oil filler neck and I do not have a sudden rise or any fluctuations in the oil. The car doesn't run hot or cold. I've had my coolant purged/refilled twice already in my normal service routine (every 30K miles)
Anyone have ideas or similar occurance?
you can see the new catalytic convertor lower right
Looks like you need to replace the cap with the updated one, part number ends in 03 (rather than 01).
Very common failure. The seal fails to hold pressure and allows large amounts of coolant to purge.
You can have the cap tested. There's an air hose adapter that dealers and some indies have. Although I think it's recommended to replace the cap by Porsche for 01 part numbers.
first I had my cap replaced (2 yrs or so ago) and recently my expansion tank as well..dealer smelt the leaking coolant right away...but compared to the worst (engine replacement) it isn't that bad.
hey jyoteen,
Jarett from wayot. I have never seen the coolant on the tip but the coolant on the other part of the exhaust is common when the tank is cracked. I would try doing the cap first. If that doesnt work your going to need a tank. If you need anything let me know.
UPDATE: Looks like it's the expansion tank. I got the cap, but before even installing it, I went to the garage and saw an actual puddle this time without any wet spots near the cap itself.
I have an appointment tomorrow to get this taken care of.
Also installed the new headlight switch in 15 minutes. The parts guy commented that I was lucky that both of the parts (switch and cap) lasted so long.
I have the 01 cap as well. Looked it up on Pelican Parts and they only have the 04 series caps. Is it recommended to do this proactively or re-actively?

Pelican doesn't carry the 03 anymore.
You can get a new cap but you don't need to unless you're leaking coolant. It's $20 though so who cares.
Suncoast has the 2001+ tank for $85 and the 98-00 tank for $200. It takes time to install it yourself but is not difficult, going to be pretty expensive at the dealer.
