Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I cannot speak from experience, but my general impression of chipping is that it can reduce throttle lag on e-gas and change the shift patterns to be agressive all the time.
Leading evidence: 'Replace shift patterns' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace shift patterns' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
IMO, I would use EVOMS in Arizona as your benchmark for chipping.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I'm a recent owner of a stock 1998, 996 C2, 3.4L, cable-throttle, Tiptronic. Going for some performance upgrade, I have bought:
1. K&N Air Induction Kit: 57-7000
2. MaxSpeed Motorsports NHP Full Exhaust SystemTM: for the Porsche 996 Carrera 99-04. This includes a set of Headers, 200 C.P.S.I Catalytic Converters, Mufflers and tips, made of high-quality T-304 Stainless Steel.
Would these two be sufficient or should I go for chip tuning? I live in Indonesia, so any possible DIY (custom-tuned program) product out there, anywhere? Please help.....
Welcome to the forum. Lots of owners have done similar mods to exhaust and intake and chips. Some will say the HP improvement is negligable, others say it improves throttle response and 'seat of the pants' improvements. Lots of threads on this subject, you might try to search for previous discussions. GL
+1
AND the K&N thing looks bad, poor materials for the shroud, and you have to drill holes in the car???? - plus there is mixed reports of the effects of the oil entering the intake and throttle body -
Given that you have the cable throttle and all the stuff you already bought, I would suggest putting all that on first, drive it for a while, enjoy it.
Chipping these cars is expensive and usually requires removal of the CPU. I cannot speak from experience, but my general impression of chipping is that it can reduce throttle lag on e-gas and change the shift patterns to be agressive all the time. Personally I don't think you will need it.
Panski,
Welcome to Rennlist. I don't have a comment about chipping your car, but what Ed is referring to above ^ is that it is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car (which you did) and to post a couple of pics of their car (which you didn't do).
So, you can consider this next statement as your official Rennlist "Newbie Initiation!"
Come on Newbie, post the @#$%^&*pics!
Please know that this is meant in good fun, but we do like our pics.
Again, Welcome to Rennlist!
for your 99 996 3.4 cable throttle.... GIAC makes an awesome upgrade... I have it on mine and noticed slightly more power in the 3-3500 rpm range where the engine was tired and more zing past 4,500 rpm....
Greetings from Indonesia!
Upps, sorry fellas for the 'manner'
& appreciate the warm welcome. Guess, I'm over excited over the new car and jumped right at it.
Just bought my speed-yellow 1998 996 from a co-worker who traded up to a low mileage 2004 C2. Mine has 10K miles when bought and interior is pristine. She's my daily ride now
[ivangene/Ed] - Definitely sound and torque, at lower range at least. Power? Sure, but I still yet to experience the limit of my '2-weeks old' baby...The K&N not so good eh, guess I went for the generic one (read: least costly) over others
[redridge] - Not a Maxspeed fan, may I know why? Heard/see their clips @youtube. I bought a pair of smoked 3rd brakelights from them at mucho discount..
[medtech] - Follow your wise advice, I shall....although today an agent from ChippedUK (any known experience w/ them Brits??) came by to download the stock mapping to comeback w/ an option & quote..
[gota911/Tim] - Again thanks for the welcome & shall post my ride, soon!!
[c70Pete] - Thanks for the heads up, but can you give more info on your results (dyno charts?) and how much did it cost you?
Many thanks from an excited Newbie.
its all good and remember it's YOUR car... do what YOU want with it. Our opinion doesnt really matter, but someof us have bought things and had less than a happy return...
yeah... thats the draw of Maxspeed, youll be happy at first.... but in the end is all that matters. If you still like it after a couple of years then good for you... to me Maxspeed is less than mediocre, your Porsche is not. As for the 3rd light.... let us know if it still works after a year or so.
someone is having a case of the Monday's
But I agree, some products just dont hold up over time... welds break, insides come loose and rattle, things rust.
since your car is low miles maybe you plan to keep it that way and it wond be as noticable, but for long term the cheaper items juat are not worth it. Keep your stock parts and you can always "un-do" it (minus the holes drilled for the K&N)
