Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Did this a week ago...took the maf out sparayed it with crc cleaner a few times, let it dry and put it back in...intially ran a bit rough and leveled out after driving the car few miles.
Leading evidence: 'Run bit rough and leveled out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean around opening so it can seat better' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Open valve (it's spring loaded and a strong spring!) and clean around opening so it can seat better when closed.

You can change your air filter while you got it apart.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am sure this has been touched on before. Did the search and saw alot on the topic. I have CRC brand MAF cleaner. Just wanted some up to date input, and if there is anything special I might need to know before proceeding.
Grazie!!

MAF's degrade over time. I consider them consumables. Here is a cheap place to buy them.
non egas '99 only - $155.96
egas '00 to '04 - $216.51

Easy job. You can change your air filter while you got it apart. If I remember correct, take off air box, spray CRC on rag and wipe down residue around butterfly valve. Open valve (it's spring loaded and a strong spring!) and clean around opening so it can seat better when closed.
Maf's do not degrade overtime. There is nothing to degrade. Like a light bulb, it either works or it doesn't. I have Bosch MAF's 10+ years old with 200,000+ miles on them and they read like brand new. I collected 7 MAF's from a local BMW dealer a few years ago that had been thrown out and each and every one of them were in perfect working order. Most Maf replacements are unecessary, but that's the world we are in. Don't bother figuring out what the problem is, just start replacing parts.
[QUOTE=Marc Gelefsky;7321907]I beg to differ, the MAF is a pretty common issue../QUOTE]
It's not an issue due to their failure but people's lack of understanding how they work.
