His insurance pays (3k in body work later) looks great...get the car back from the bodyshop (dealer bodyshop no less...) and notice a front end shimmy at highway speeds over 65mph, that was not there before the repair, even after the car was hit.

Sorry to see the car all banged up, but look at the bright side, you can change the front end and not feel bad for geting rid of a perfect stock one ??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello Everyone! I've been a Rennlist member for a year and a scouring the board for a year before that. Thanks so much for all the excellent info. All the knowledge gained allowed me to purchase my 2000 911 c2 6 speed a year ago. Hopefully the pics work. It's Guards Red with a black full leather interior. No special options, although I do have the PSM. I've installed the Tequipment exhaust tips and a silver Carrera badge on the rear! Check it out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! More info, I bought the car from the 3rd owner, it only had 22,000 miles when I bought it. One year later it has 32k mi. More pics! How do you guys get your pics so big? The 140k file size is killing me..

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Yeah the red definitely attracts attention. I love the color on the car, I think it sharpens up the shape somewhat. I looked for about a year to find this car. It was worth it.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! The tint really makes the car, and is very functional in California. The previous owner put the tint on, so I will look in the records tonight and give you an answer. I've heard some Cali, Southwest owners actually tint the front windshield slightly as well! I haven't, but I've thought about it, the sun is so harsh and I'm fair skinned...

POST 12Original post

Congratulations. Nothing like having that first 911. Ride and enjoy. Jay

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kolshak, Checking the receipts, my tint was applied by the former owner. The tint brand was FORMULAONE performance automotive film. The tints %'s are listed as 20% on the rear window and 20% on the rear quarter windows, 35% on the door windows. Go figure, I always thought it was darker on the back window....

POST 14Original post

Looks like a keeper, Way to go on the new car

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks DJ23, it has been a dream come true, and challenging all at the same time. I used to have Porsche posters posted all over my room when I was a kid, and to finally get one, fantastic. Although my commitment has been challenged for sure, so far in the year I've had it, the coolant expansion tank burst (1k at the dealer, haven't found a good indie yet...) A few months later the car became almost impossible to start, plus time for 30k check, plus no reverse lights (2.3k at the dealer, they said the alarm control module went bad , but I had a Cayman loaner for a week...) The shocks went completely bad ($800 parts from Sunset, $550 install plus alignment from Johnson's Alignment in Torrance A+ to them)...Finally hoping things settle down some, then some 90 yr old man, hopped up on meds I imagine, drifts through a stop sign and hits my ps front fender and bumper! at @ 3 mph. His insurance pays (3k in body work later) looks great...get the car back from the bodyshop (dealer bodyshop no less...) and notice a front end shimmy at highway speeds over 65mph, that was not there before the repair, even after the car was hit. Take it back to the bodyshop, they play dumb and point out a huge bubble on the drivers side front tire sidewall. Super fishy...the rear tires were already worn, now I have to get all new tires.... So I got the Sumitomo's HTR 3's. Wow....brand new car! Sooo quiet and rides so much better....I'm hoping for a peaceful year of p-car ownership to come...

FYI the percent is the amount of light the tint LETS THROUGH... so Limo is 5% (aka very dark) and the legal limit in most states for side windows is 35%, rear can be darker as long as you have 2 side mirrors (since in many vans and such there are no back windows at all) Factory tint is sometimes as high as 70% on the front side windows and as far as I know it is illegal in all states to tint the front window (except a band no mare than 6" down from the top as a visor) I wonder how that works on a chopped top with one of those 5 inch tall windshields??? Ed

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car @ a month ago after the old timer gold Volvo smack down.....it was like a bad movie, I was stopped in the road (no stop sign for me) waiting to turn left, when the 90 yr old guy to my right who was already stopped at the stop sign after I stopped to wait to turn starts drifting towards me at low speed, I'm stuck, can't turn, honking my horn, watching this guy close in on me at @ 3mph, I yell "nooooooo" ,the old man wakes up and suddenly is aware of the RED car right in front of him and vainly tries to turn right......too late........ugh......

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info Ivangene, you learn something everyday! The tints %'s make sense now....

POST 19Original post

you need a host web site like photobucket or flickr so you dont bog your post with attached pics. Upload your pics to one of the site and copy the image links to your post... the best way to post pics really. Nice car and welcome to RL.

POST 20Original post

E-Gads!! 90 yr/old + 3 mph sounds like a dangerous combo!! I think they need a few DE days for those 3 wheels scooters they drive around in. Sorry to see the car all banged up, but look at the bright side, you can change the front end and not feel bad for geting rid of a perfect stock one ?? That sucks! I bet the last few miliseconds were horrible. Good luck on the repiars. Ed

POST 21Original post

Bummer about the car, but you have to remember it's just that. I offer to let all my friends drive it and I think it helps me in some sort of way, yes - it's a Porsche, but also it's a car. I'm having a ton of fun with it and you should too. Granted, I'm sure I'll be upset when I get a ding or a scratch, but I'm sort of prepping myself not to be upset. Good Luck!!!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, the accident was a stinker, but the first pics are of the car now, it's already been repaired and looks great. While at the repair shop I had the black Carrera logo replaced with a silver one from Eric of Bumperplugs.com! I need to do the rear bumperettes next... Super stinker, I had a 2nd date with a girl the next day who had yet to see the car, so I had to show up with my all of a sudden lumpy Porsche. Yeah, I let everyone I know drive the car as well, with me in it of course.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Redridge! Thanks for the info about the photo hosting site, I will do that next time.

POST 24Original post

That sucks! No major damage; you'll be back to as good as new in no time!
