FYI....you should ALWAYS bleed the system when you change pads.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to replace the front rotors and pads. They're on order and should be here next week. Today i did a brake fluid flush and the clutch took longer than I thought to flush through. I ended up being a little short on brake fluid. I didn't get any air in the system at this point, but my fluid level light is on. When i replace the rotors and pads the fluid level will obviously raise and should be fine. My only concern is driving between now and the pad/rotor replacement introducing air into the system. So would you: A) just drive it for a week and replace the rotors/pads without worrying about air B) Pick up some other DOT 4 fluid (used ATE for flush and can't find locally) to bring the level up before the rotor/pad replacement. Thanks, Shawn

POST 2Original post

You won't introduce air into the system if you top it off. When you do the pad and rotor replacement make sure to do a good bleed. ps. I wouldn't mix brake fluids. That's just me though. If it's super blue you need I have an extra can I can send you if you're in a pinch.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, thanks for the kind offer. I actually just switched from blue to gold, otherwise I'd take you up on it. Will I introduce air during normal driving if I do not top it off? Sounds like you suggest a quick bleed just in case in either case...

POST 4Original post

YOu should be just fine. Where is the level? Can you see it at a "safe" level in the reservoir? FYI....you should ALWAYS bleed the system when you change pads.

POST 5Original post

If you have any fluid in the resevoir, air will not be introduced into the system when you top off. If it is dry inside the resevoir, air may be introduced while driving.
