Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like my Porsche subtle and classic. I'm looking at a Porsche that has an aftermarket aero kit - just not my style. Are aero kits easy to remove (minimal paint and body work), or is it just more trouble than its worth to remove, and I should just keep looking?

POST 2Original post

The front bumper is just a swap and the side skirts are removable with some work.

POST 3Original post

Yea easy swap, and the parts could be worth good money, I must say , i am putting an Aerokit, and maybe 20% of the rest of the board. I felt my 04 c2 was too boring with out it...good luck and let me know if you find one with it , ill buy some parts.....maybe

POST 4Original post

if you are going to do an aerokit, do the porsche aerokit cup, most aftermarket ones look terrible.

POST 5Original post

Hey Moogle , I have a Factory Aero kit II , but i know someone looking, I wouldnt buy an aftermarket kit, the money you save goes into prep work 9 out of 10 times.

POST 6Original post

If it is the early factory aerokit (MY01 or older car) then the side skirts are epoxied on. The later kits and aftermarket kits used double stick tape. An early factory kit might be very difficult to remove.

POST 7Original post

Why not look for a car w/o it, should be easier/cheaper to find,no?

POST 8Original post

any competant body shop should be able to get the aerokit off. even the early epoxied ones.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The 996 I'm looking at has M220, M222, M224 and M030 - a nice combination of performance features (limited slip diff, traction control, sport suspension). It has the factory carbon fiber options (ebrake, shifter) - but I can live without those. It comes with sport classic wheels, although not my favorite, will make a nice set of back-up wheels for track day. Of all the aero kit parts, the rocker panels seem the most out of place. I might just pull those and leave the rest. I'm on the fence about the GT3 style rear wing, but I'm wondering if I can find someone with a silver 996 who would be happy to swap their stock engine lid for the lid with the GT3 wing (?).

POST 10Original post

I say keep looking unless that is an exceptional buy.

POST 13Original post

I have an 03 rear lid wing with motor , blue metalic like new .I would trade you. should not cost much to paint. Elliot

POST 14Original post

The early 99-01 have a rail with screws as well...... The later have the double side tape as stated...... If you have the early 99-01 then be prepared to have some body fill and paint..... -Eli

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the help on aero kits and offers of read deck lid swaps. I'm hunting for a clean silver 1999 with the limited slip option (220) for track day. Sport suspension (030) would be nice, but I can always modify the suspension. If I want a 996 with LSD, my options are pretty limited - the various GTs being out of my reach, and the 40th anniversary model having more options than I really want. Trying to add a LSD to a non-LSD 996 seems like a lot of trouble, if it is even at all possible. I'll keep y'all posted.
