Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've seen several posts indicating that their coolant tanks were leaking. Where do these leaks occur? At the hose connection, cap, or is it a cracked tank?

POST 2Original post

On my 1999 C2 the was a very small crack around the filler cap neck.

POST 3Original post

Mine had a small crack at the base of the tank, presented with small spots of coolant on the headers and a smell of coolant. This was a very small leak as the coolant level had barely dropped.

POST 4Original post

I didn't see the crack but I saw coolant (very samll drop at first) on the ground just below the driver side exhaust tip. Within a couple weeks it lost it all and the floor was a mess. Pic attached of the last day.

POST 5Original post

I had the unfortunate experience of my wife coming home and saying "your $90,000 car is leaking fluid all over our garage floor." Ouch.

POST 6Original post

Had 4 tanks on my 99. Cracks developed from bottom top and sides of the tank. There are like 4 generations of tanks. Make sure you get a new cap at the same time, I think it's included in the price of the part.

POST 8Original post

Mine went from a slow drip to "holy crap, I think a dam burst!"

POST 9Original post

Mine just appeared to be slowly using coolant. I saw some caked coolant around the cap and talked with the dealer about it. The first thing they had me do was ensure it wasn't cross-threaded (it wasn't, and it kept on leaking). I finally dropped it off with them and viola, it was the coolant cap. So, don't assume it's something serious.
