Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Elliot - thanks for the reply, yes the windscreen has been replaced twice once about a year ago and once in the last week to try and resolve the problem, from what I can make out the noise is coming from the headlining about 2 or 3 inches back from the top of the windscreen, so I don't think it's the windscreen joint itself!

When it was replaced they probably did not know about that service bulletin.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Thanks for the advice - Elliot you are right on closer inspection (after I'd removed the headlining!) it is the top edge of the windshield, i have just put some silicon spray in between the rubber lips on the outside which seems to have cured it for now, next I guess I need to look into fixing it as per the TB, thanks all

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I've got a 01 996TT and the head lining is creaking around the top of the wind shield, has anybody else experienced this and if so what does one do to try and stop it happening it's getting a bit annoying!! any replies gratefully received!

POST 2Original post

Hi Charlie, Was your windscreen replaced?? This is a known problem . Porsche has a foam gasket that goes in under weather strip around windshield from out side. Part cost is about $ 15.00 USD . Ask your dealer for the service bulletin. Regards, Elliot

POST 4Original post

Charlie, I know it sounds like the headliner, but it probably is the windshield. When it was replaced they probably did not know about that service bulletin. Easy fix though. Rgards, Elliot

POST 5Original post

Service Bulletin #6420 and the part no. for the foam cord is 996 541 903.00. However, Bruce Anderson of Excellence Magazine recommends simply spraying some Pedro's Ice Wax in the gap between the glass and the seal. After effecting this relatively simple fix, my front and rear windows have been dead silent now for almost six weeks and counting. It really is wax, and won't evaporate as some have warned. http://www.pedros.com Order the spray can because it comes with a tubelike nozzle which easily fits between the window and the seal. Champion Porache wants $200 per window to perform the service bulletin. Some have purchased the part for only $15 each though (I think you'll need three for front, back, and some spots where the cord can be doubled). I thought a can of Pedro's was a more prudent path.
