Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did you know that a tradition for Porsche manufacturing is that every body is signed by the person that painted it? It has traditionally been either on the right side of the dashboard, or in the rear right taillight housing. I pulled off my taillight and sure enough, there it was! If I decode this correctly, the Painter was named Arsch (or was one...), the body was painted in Zuffahausen ("Z), and it was painted during the 2nd (B) shift. Anyone else got pictures of their cars paint signature they can post?

POST 3Original post

Did Earl Scheib used to work there... man I think he got ahold of mine..........there are a couple areas I wish I would have looked at better before making the purchase

POST 4Original post

I found some handwriting on mine with I pulled my bumpers recently, but mostly the paint code. This picture looks like 'D911'?

POST 5Original post

You know, I had my rear tailights out at least 3 times and never saw the sigs. I had a bad wire loom that required me to take them out to get that little bastard 144 bulb (I think thats the number?) working.

POST 6Original post

It's reported that this practice has stopped at Zuffenhausen.

POST 7Original post

Interesting name "Arsch". It's German for a person's rear end. Very appropriate that it's on the rear tailights.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well it was drawn on the arsch end!

Dan, that is how you clean your car!!!!!???? Wow!!

POST 13Original post

Too bad they're not doing that anymore. Kind of a cool tradtion. On the other hand, maybe they've just been told to quit writing rude messages to the North Americans.....

Did anyone check under their headlights for "Schwantz"? I heard that he was another good painter!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 6638440

Ha, yeah. Always cool to see some indication of someone who helped bring the car into the world....

POST 17Original post

Rumor has it with some of the older models items such as beer labels and handwritten notes were found behind door panels since the workers would place them there and forget about them before sealing things up. As long as it doesn't rattle, I think it would be a cool find.

Doesn't everyone partially disassemble their cars to clean them? I saved a few Stuttgarter Bier caps to toss under a few 911 seats during full concours events here in the States...

I think so, I know that I do!

POST 20Original post

That looks great! The other big plus is you wind up learning so much about your car!

I'm still in awe with the amount of "stuff" that is crammed into the back of our cars. I was trying to explain the exhaust layout to my father-in-law last night as it was the first time he'd seen my car. He was pretty intrigued by the packaging of all the engine components. When you look at it all, it's a wonder how it even fits!
