Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
There are concerns for squeaks because you have to remove some panels and run two wires from the driver's side dash to the back and under the ECU and into the engine compartment.
Leading evidence: 'Run two wires' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run two wires' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know the dealers charge alot to install PSE, and that there is a risk of rattles/squeaks from havingt he interior bits removed/replaced, but has anyone done this? if so, what did it cost, and how did it work out?
Most elect not to have the switch installed as they want it on all the time. And there is the chance of squeaks & rattles. If you elect not to have the switch installed, any muffler shop can change out the muffler for a LOT less that the dealer. I took mine to Midas and paid $75.00. Took them about an hour. Nothing magic about it.

The only reason I was going to get the switch installed was for the wife. Well, when we picked up the car with PSE installed and no switch she said "I am glad we didn't waste the extra money". Needless to say, she loves it. $100 for 1 hr of labor at the dealer and their work is warranted. Couldn't be happoer! The sound of PSE is intoxicating.
My C4S came with PSE, but I don't have a switch, it's always on. Does that seem normal? Or maybe I do have the switch and haven't seen it. Where are the switches usually located?
I installed mine with full electronics and can say that there are no additional squeaks or rattles. There are concerns for squeaks because you have to remove some panels and run two wires from the driver's side dash to the back and under the ECU and into the engine compartment. You also have to remove the throttle body to tap into the vacuum system to actuate the muffler flaps.
The dealer installation is estimated at about 7 hours. I did mine over a three day period which ended up somewhere between 10 and 12 hours+.
There are three major steps to the install
1. Mufflers (easiest part)
2. Electronics (most difficult)
3. Vacuum lines (not too bad)
I think the dealer charges about $1000 for the full install. You could install just the mufflers and test it out. If you want the switch, simply install it later.
Alternatively, you could actually wire-tie the muffler flaps to close the valves -- this will make the muffler quiet all of the time. Remove wires when you want it "loud".
Fishman - if PSE came from the factory on a new car, the switch will be there. You should also notice that between 30-40mph (something like that) the sound decreases as PSE is programmed for Europe noise standards to cut out in that speed range (but there is a hack to eliminate that).
ajc8888 - Forget about installing the switch - I didn't and I love it. Apart from potential squeaks and rattles from tearing everything up, it takes about 6+ hours of labor. If you are worried about too much noise in a particular situation, you can just drive easy for the moment. When you get your PSE, come downtown and do what I did yesterday - 2nd street tunnel east from Figueroa, WOT all the way through - awesome!
I have the PSE on my C4S, but I don't have that switch! I bought my car used, it looks like the previous owner had it installed afterwards? It's still a crazy sounding exhaust note. I've owned the car for about one week and I have barely listened to the radio.
I looked at my owner's manual and found out that my PSE switch is on the right side of my central console, below the defrost button. My PSM switch is on the left side of the central console. This is an 03 C4S. I don't know if that switch does anything since I've never played with it. I'll try it later and see if it's less or more noisy with the button pressed!
